Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls (WMRC), a music education and social justice organization in NYC, has an immediate opening for an experienced part-time Grant Researcher/Writer. The schedule is flexible, requiring approximately 13-15 hours per month, and most of the work can be done remotely, with occasional visits to the office.


THE POSITION

Reporting to the Interim Executive Director, the Grant Researcher/Writer will:

  • Prepare compelling, concise reports and proposals for WMRC’s portfolio of grantors
  • Research and identify new funding opportunities and potential donors
  • Manage the grants calendar and ensure that proposals, reports, and other requirements are submitted on time and grant opportunities are adequately tracked
  • Ensure a strong pipeline of new foundation and corporate prospects through ongoing research
  • Understand the needs of both WMRC and funding entities and craft proposals that explicitly connect the two

Duties also include:

  • Maintaining compliance with government databases (federal, state and local)
  • Working with WMRC staff to gather financial/budget and programmatic data needed for applications and reports
  • Proactively collaborating with staff and board on details and direction for proposal development and timelines
  • Ensuring that deadlines and formatting requirements are met 
  • Supporting WMRC staff and board in developing and executing fundraising strategies

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have exceptional writing and editing skills and knowledge of the NYC funding community, in particular the intersection of arts education and social justice. Eligible candidates will have a successful track record of securing government, foundation and corporate support. Experience with government funding streams is a must.

Ideally, the successful candidate:

  • Has at least 3 years of experience in grant writing within the arts education and/or social justice fields. A Bachelor’s in English, journalism, communications or marketing is preferred.
  • Is passionate about WMRC’s mission, values and programs
  • Is able to work independently, juggling multiple projects and deadlines with grace and humor
  • Has a strong eye for detail and impeccable editing, time, project management and organization skills
  • Sees the possibilities as opposed to the obstacles and is flexible, creative, tenacious and resourceful in solving problems
  • Has excellent computer skills, including working remotely on shared networks and cloud-based systems, and a high degree of proficiency using G Suite and Microsoft Office


This is a part-time, permanent position to be filled immediately.
