The Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center (MSAHC) is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator to work on studies of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in adolescent and young adult females. The purposes of these studies are to examine the risk of HPV in these populations and the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine against HPV infection. This position concentrates heavily on the recruitment and retention of adolescent participants. Candidates should have experience in health education and feel extremely comfortable talking with adolescents about reproductive health and anatomy. Candidates should be detail-oriented and have great interpersonal skills.

The Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, a program of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, provides no-cost, integrated, and comprehensive primary health care, sexual and reproductive health care, and mental health care services to more than 12,000 urban adolescents and young adults every year, most of whom are people of color and from low-income backgrounds. The Center is also a teaching site and conducts funded research on adolescent health.

Essential Job Functions:

Supervised by the Project Manager, the Clinical Research Coordinator will work on the HPV research projects. Tasks and responsibilities include: recruiting study participants; enrolling patients and obtaining informed consent; administering questionnaires to patients; developing and maintaining databases; conducting follow-up contact; attending weekly project meetings; and providing general assistance with project-related administrative tasks.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will also oversee participants’ study visits including: conducting the screening process; setting up follow-up and non-study appointments. There is minimal lab work involved that requires working with blood. Teamwork is a strong component of this position, so the ability to work with different personalities is critical.

The Clinical Research Coordinator also will make referrals to appropriate staff regarding nutritional counseling, smoking cessation, substance abuse counseling, physical and mental abuse counseling, and psychological counseling.

Educational & Professional Skills:

A Bachelor’s degree is required. Successful candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong telephone skills; be detail-oriented and very organized; and have basic computer skills (Word, Excel, and Access). Candidates should be interested in working with adolescents and committed to health equity.

Please note that this position requires on-site interaction with study participants and some Saturday hours.
