Payroll Accountant

The Payroll Accountant reports to the Accounting Supervisor and is primarily responsible for processing bi-monthly payroll and all related benefits accounting. This role also manages accounts receivable functions and is back-up for some accounts payable duties. Other responsibilities include maintaining financial records, preparing reports, reconciling bank statements, processing business transactions, and handling other financial matters as needed.

We are a small team that provides critical support for a variety of different programs and good teamwork and interpersonal skills are essential for working in the Finance Team.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Payroll processing for 35+ employees & contractors (exempt & non-exempt)
  • Monitor bank balances in payroll account
  • Verify time-off balances and PTO liability
  • Update salaries & benefits schedules, allocations & process related journals
  • WorkForce Now subject matter & systems expert

Human Resources

  • Subject matter expert on our benefits offerings
  • Reconcile all benefit & related accounts
  • Ensure that new hire & termination paperwork is complete including all benefit documentation
  • Maintain confidential information & documents including organization of personnel files

Accounts Receivable

  • Receive and record all checks and ACH receipts
  • Create Customers in NetSuite
  • Process customer statements monthly and follow up on delinquent or problematic accounts
  • Reconcile accrued liabilities accounts and prepare reconciling or correcting entries as needed
  • Provide accounting, reporting, and coordination of annual membership dues

Banking

  • Reconcile bank statements, excluding general operating account, to balances in accounting system
  • Identify adjusting and correcting entries with month-end banking journals

Accounts Payable

  • Serve as primary back-up for accounts payables & expense reimbursements including vendor bills entry
  • Serve as primary control for setting up and maintaining accurate vendor data & files in Accounts Payable systems
  • Reconcile AP accounts; follows up on delinquent payments and uncleared checks
  • Assist with processing year-end 1099s

General

  • Prepare monthly accounting entries for and reconciles various Balance Sheet Accounts
  • Assist with monthly close journal entries
  • Serve as Net Suite Subject Matter Expert in areas of banking, accounts payables, accounts receivables, bank reconciliations, and payroll accounting
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • Ensure integrity and organization of CAFB digital accounting files
  • Complete miscellaneous duties & special projects as assigned


Qualifications

·      Teamwork is essential to working in the CAFB Finance Team

·      Service mentality, understanding that the primary objective of the Finance Team is to serve CAFB Program staff and CAFB Member Food Banks

·      Strong Excel skills and command of entire MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Power Point, etc.)

·      Knowledge of basic bookkeeping & accounting

·      Attention to detail and accuracy

·      Ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume environment

·      Positive, professional communication skills

·      Good organizational and time management skills
