Service to Improve Community Health (STICH) AmeriCorps Program Overview

Service to Improve Community Health (STICH) AmeriCorps Members will be placed within 11 federally qualified health centers across Connecticut. The STICH AmeriCorps Members will implement standardized health insurance literacy training at the health centers and in other locations like community centers, local libraries, and colleges/universities. STICH AmeriCorps Members will organize and provide community-specific health education initiatives which address prevalent, chronic conditions currently outside the scope of traditional clinical interventions. Health education initiatives may be offered in numerous languages depending on the need of that specific community. STICH AmeriCorps Members will address obstacles to patient access, both with adults and children, by focused care coordination and navigation of the health care system. STICH AmeriCorps Members will have the opportunity to attend community events and health fairs to raise awareness of these services throughout their term.

How long will STICH Members serve?

STICH Members will serve 40+ hours per week for 10 months. STICH members will begin service early September 2021 and complete service early July 2022.

What do I need to qualify?

-  18+ years of age

-  High school diploma or GED, or in the process of getting GED

-  U.S. Resident, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident

-  Reliable transportation

-  Pluses: Spanish-speaking, experience in health care

You will be placed in a Community Health Center in Connecticut.
