The Project Director of the Economic Inclusion Initiative is responsible for developing policy priorities that substantively advance economic inclusion for Latinos, including immigrants and mixed status families. In this role the Project Director will undertake work to inform and guide key questions of impact for policy and advocacy strategy, develop research publications (including reports, fact sheets, and peer reviewed articles and studies) to communicate findings, policy positions. The Project Director will lead dissemination and monitor the impact of the work for key audiences, including state and federal policymakers, legislative staff, foundations, and allies. The Project Director will develop and lead execution on research priorities that document harms of financial exclusion, highlight the economic contributions and dynamism of Latinos (including specifically Latinas), envision the benefits of greater inclusion, and drive towards policy solutions and more inclusive practices and vision for government services, policies, and programs. The work will be done in coordination with other issue teams, and in collaboration with colleagues across the organization to leverage all UnidosUS assets to advance economic equity and inclusion. UnidosUS offers a collaborative, team-based environment that fosters a culture of ideas and debate. We approach our work from multiple perspectives and methods, understanding both the specific issues and their larger interrelated systems. This position will report to the Director, Economic Policy Project (or, in the interim, the Senior Policy Director) and is hybrid based in our Washington, DC office.


• Work dynamically with the team to plan and execute rigorous and timely research that makes the case for economic inclusion for Latinos in alignment with key economic team policy priorities.

• Build depth of understanding and credibility for UnidosUS on economic inclusion and become and effective internal and external advocate for these issues.

• Analyze new and emerging economic policy issues that affect the Latino community, and develop, as appropriate, new research products, policy analysis, recommendations, and solutions.

• Collaborate strategically with Economic Policy and Immigration Policy teams, as well as staff from other policy projects and across the organization to advance goals. External Leadership

• Coordinate, develop, and participate in public policy forums, summits, briefings, and others, events where relevant economic policy matters are discussed.

• Serve as a spokesperson for the research and related projects and policy goals on Latino economic policy priorities, representing UnidosUS priorities in internal and external meetings, and before congressional staff, policymakers/experts, and issue stakeholders.

• Work with media through our Marcomm team, as appropriate.

• Participate in external economic policy advisory groups, boards, or committees as appropriate.

• Manage the production of high quality, timely, and relevant policy documents/ materials in support of UnidosUS’s goals.

• Develop, conduct, and publish independent research, peer-reviewed materials, and relevant policy analysis on economic policy issues, collaborating with academic and peer organizations as appropriate.

• Provide research-related support and guidance on economic policy documents, including issue briefs, policy memoranda, regulatory comments, public testimony, talking points for the UnidosUS President and CEO, and journal articles developed by the economic policy team.

• Support fundraising efforts to maintain and grow economic policy activities and manage key funder relationships.


Education & Experience

• Master’s degree required.

• Six (6) to eight (8) years of relevant experience in policy/legislative environment, with demonstrated success in conducting research with sophisticated methodologies, publishing peer-reviewed articles, and developing timely materials.

• Relevant experience conducting policy analysis and developing economic policy solutions.

• Experience with and understanding of economic issues facing Latino and immigrant communities. • Prior experience communicating policy ideas in public settings such as congressional hearings, major conferences, or written materials such as reports or issue briefs.

• Ability to work as part of a team, collaborate across the organization, and take initiative, as well as work effectively under tight deadlines, and coordinate multiple projects.

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite more specifically, Office 365.

• Acute attention to detail.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus.
