Communities In Schools (CISFWH) of Federal Way-Highline’s is seeking an Executive Director to help us to accomplish our mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CISFWH believes that transformative relationships are key to unlocking a student's potential. CISFWH has been operating in Federal Way Public Schools for fifteen years and Highline School District for three years. CISFWH is a dynamic, growing organization that currently employs 20 people, operates within 15 schools and has an annual budget of over $1 million. Last year, School Outreach Coordinators helped over 14,000 students overcome barriers to success, stay on track to graduate and aim for a brighter future.

Job Title:                            Executive Director

Schedule:                           Full-time 

Pay Range:                         $80,000 - $100,000 (DOE) plus benefits

JOB OPPORTUNITY: We are currently seeking a proven, dynamic leader for Communities In Schools of Federal Way-Highline (CISFWH).  

The successful candidate: 

  • is a visionary, inspirational, dynamic and skilled leader who is experienced in building diverse teams, creating inclusive environments, fostering diverse points of view, problem solving, conflict management, and leads with transparency; 
  • ability to inspire and empower others, and demonstrated capacity to turn vision into reality through the implementation of strategic and tactical activities to achieve established goals;  
  • must believe in the tenets of equity, diversity, and social justice to help overcome barriers to increase student access and outcomes and understands the intersections of poverty, race, sexuality, gender, and ability and incorporates that understanding in their daily actions within our communities and with our staff and board members; and,  
  • has experience in maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders, organizational management and sustainability through strong internal operations, financial oversight, resource development, and support of staff.  


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Management and Leadership

Effectively lead the CISFWH staff by equipping employees with tools, training, and support to achieve program outcomes and perform at a high level. Develop and maintain a smoothly running internal administrative system while responding to external needs with accuracy and speed. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate a diverse CISFWH staff. Provide staff orientation and on-going professional development. Provide overall direction for the Human Resources function of the organization. Develop, coordinate and implement initiatives to ensure and enhance the effectiveness of the CISFWH program; direct and support development of an annual operations plan, site plans and long-range strategic plan. Develop and manage all program operations. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and recommend changes as appropriate. Develop new programs as needs arise. Attend CIS state and national meetings and trainings as appropriate. 

Working Relationships 

Establish and maintain positive, productive working relationships with appropriate school districts, social service agencies, local and national CIS offices, partner agencies, local government, the business community and Board of Directors. Maintain appropriate linkages with school system leadership to ensure a collaborative partnership with school districts in implementing CISFWH initiatives. Advocate on behalf of and uplift the voices of students and families in communities we serve. Ability to adjust to different leadership styles, changing circumstances, and new challenges by seeing options and possibilities.  

Financial Management  

Develop, manage, and execute all fiscal responsibilities to include budgetary, tax, legal, and financial obligations as well as reporting requirements. Oversee the financial management system to ensure effective fiscal management; prepare an annual budget for review and approval by the board of directors; continuously monitor expenses and revenues compared to budget and provide regular reports to the board of directors.  

Board Relations 

Serve as the primary staff advisor to the Board of Directors relating to all CISFWH matters. Establish and maintain productive working relationships with the Board of Directors, to include budget development, periodical progress reports, staffing and organizational needs, program development and strategic planning. Work closely with the board president to support all board functions, including assisting in the recruitment of new board members; help to plan board and committee meeting agendas; work with individual board members and committees to ensure that all board members understand the mission and goals of CISFWH; support the various planning processes of the board; and provide sufficient information to fulfill their policy-making responsibilities. 

Confidentiality 

Understand and adhere to the CISFWH confidentially policy and all standards of conduct as described in the CISFWH Policy Manual. 

Any other duties and responsibilities relating to the CISFWH Program as directed by the Board of Directors. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in public administration, education, social science or related field.   
  • Five plus years’ experience in senior leadership/management role 
  • Experience working with diverse communities and demonstrated leadership working towards equity and inclusion
  • Experience and working knowledge of all facets of non-profit operations (finances, human resources, fundraising, programs) 
  • Experienced in empowering, engaging, mentoring, and supporting staff.
  • Strong understanding of resource development strategies and a proven record of success 
  • High level verbal and written communication skills with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge and understanding of needs and challenges facing youth
