The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.

The Center is seeking an Associate, Communications and Design for the Communications team, which is responsible for the Center’s external communications. The department oversees the Center’s website, social media, email marketing, video production, publicity, and events.

Reporting to the Graphic Designer and working closely with a growing and collaborative communications team, the Associate, Communications and Design will act as a crucial support for communications efforts at the Center for Court Innovation. This individual will gain extensive experience across the organization, assisting with and developing a variety of graphic design, multimedia, and marketing products.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Assist in the development—including writing and design—of printed and digital products including but not limited to reports, fact sheets, internal documents, presentations, infographics, and marketing materials;
  • Maintain organizational video and photo library; take photos as assigned or work with photographers, acting as liaison with program teams on media campaigns; create communications assets/products using graphic design or work with contracted graphic designers on products;
  • Provide pre- and post-production assistance for videos, podcasts and graphics, including scheduling, logistics, question preparation, transcript review (video) and suggesting and planning information graphics (graphics);
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of posts on social media platforms, with an eye to trending topics and Center news and priorities;
  • Assist with maintaining content calendars and task-management systems;
  • In collaboration with another Communications Associate, serve as a liaison between the communications team and other programs and departments for relevant updates;
  • Help our individual programs develop communications’ plans and the capacity to reach their local audiences (e.g., clients, partners, community stakeholders, etc.);
  • In collaboration with the other Communications Associate, coordinate and support regular communications trainings for program staff;
  • Provide administrative and event support as needed to the department; i.e. set agenda, take notes, and disseminate after for all-team meetings;
  • Other relevant duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of relevant work experience, with a background in communications. They will have experience or knowledge of digital tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, MailChimp, and social media platforms. Graphic design skills required. Photography/videography skills a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills needed. Regular commuting between program sites in all New York boroughs required. The candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively. They will be culturally responsive and interested in helping reform the criminal justice system.

Compensation: Salary range starts at $50,000. Excellent benefits package including comprehensive health, dental and life insurance, four weeks paid vacation, paid sick time, TransitChek, Flexible Spending Account plans for health and dependent care, a 403(b) retirement plan and a 401(k) retirement plan with a generous employer match.
