The League of Women Voters of New Jersey (the League), a nonpartisan political nonprofit, works to empower voters and defend democracy. Founded 100 years ago, we make democracy work by protecting voting rights and encouraging robust participation.

With over 30 local League chapters throughout the state, the League of Women Voters of New Jersey supports a large volunteer network of grassroots activists.

Position Summary:

The League is seeking a full-time Community Organizer to mobilize members, supporters, volunteers, organizations, and the public. This person will play an important role in developing an organizing strategy aimed at building power at the state and local levels to secure transformational wins and growing the organization. This person will also play a key role in mobilizing voters ahead of the 2021 elections.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success leveraging both digital and offline engagement strategies. A tech-savvy activist, this person will develop, create, and implement digital and traditional communications to win advocacy campaigns, as well as employ organizing strategies to build the people power necessary to empower voters and defend our democracy. The Community Organizer will:

  • Develop and implement voter engagement plans to build power in diverse communities.
  • Mobilize and strengthen local Leagues in New Jersey, foster cooperation among local Leagues, and offer professional support to help local Leagues achieve their goals. Grow volunteer leadership and capacity at the state and local League levels. Maintain regular communications and reporting between League levels.
  • Build strong, trusted, and authentic relationships with League leaders and partner organizations.
  • Offer organizing support and expertise to help achieve legislative, advocacy, and program wins, and build grassroots organizing power to advocacy and coalition building efforts.
  • Develop and create public messaging and communications to mobilize campaign support including advocacy alerts, social media engagement, flyers, graphics, etc
  • Mobilize the public to engage in the redistricting process through the Fair Districts New Jersey coalition.
  • Develop and host various organizing and advocacy trainings for diverse audiences.

Experiences and Skills Preferred

1-2 years organizing experience preferred.

2 year or 4 year degree preferred but not required.

Excellent communication, management, and people skills.

Ability to multi-task and learn complicated concepts quickly.

Experience creating effective digital and traditional communications to win advocacy campaigns and organize grassroots support.

Knowledge of online advocacy tools and comfort with various technological platforms to engage with audiences, including EveryAction, Voter Activation Network (VAN), Outreach Circle, Canva, Hootsuite, Adobe Creative Suite or similar a plus. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Teams.

Must be organized, detail oriented, and driven to meet goals.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired but not required.

Benefits

Compensation and Benefits:

●   This is a full-time position that reports to the Executive Director.

●   Salary range $40,000 - $45,000.

●   This is a remote position until further notice. In the future, candidates can expect a combination of working from home, working on-site in Trenton, and extensive travel around the state. A typical week might include 2 days in the office, 2 days working from home, and 1 day in the field. Working nights and weekends is common.

●    Benefits include an employer paid health plan (for employee only).
