REPORTS TO: Executive Director

LOCATION: Remote – Washington, DC based a plus

COMPENSATION: $68,864 or higher, depending on years of relevant experience

ABOUT USCPR

The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) is part of a global movement in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

We are a national network of activists and organizations who are committed to freedom, justice, and equality for the Palestinian people and who work to end U.S. complicity in their oppression.

We work on seeding and supporting local organizing and advocacy campaigns with a cross-movement and abolitionist lens, connecting local campaigns to internationalist Palestinian demands and visions for freedom, while also engaging in policy change at the federal level.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Organizing & Advocacy Director is responsible for driving the programmatic strategy of the organization according to its mission, values, and strategic plan, and executing annual objectives with the organizing & advocacy team. The Director will be supporting organizing and advocacy staff, interns, fellows and volunteer organizers to develop deeper organizing skills as well as holding day-to-day team management.

The Organizing & Advocacy Director reports directly to the Executive Director, and works hand-in-hand with the Director of Communications and Director of Development to ensure cohesive and integrated campaigns, programs, and events, and will represent USCPR in public-facing coalitions and events, holding relationships with key Palestine and cross-movement partners.

We are looking for an experienced organizer who has worked to build the leadership of youth and BIPOC organizers, has built and sustained coalitions, and has led campaigns focused on transformative change at the national and local level. An ideal candidate will support our team with organizing, mobilizing, and expanding support for Palestinian rights among a broad array of progressive allies from Black, brown, Indigenous, immigrant, disability rights, and other radical/progressive traditions and movements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise & support our three member organizing and advocacy team (National Field Organizer, Manager of Congressional & Grassroots Advocacy, and Manager of Policy & Advocacy Campaigns, and a to be designed and hired fourth organizing position), bringing a strategic eye to how our communications and development fit together with organizing & advocacy. Including working with our networks, some of which include:
  • GAIN + youth network
  • Policy space
  • Demilitarize US to Palestine network.
  • Provide strategic support, training, workshops, and resources to increase engagement with our campaigns, including primarily:
  • A) deepening strategy for a national campaign connecting divestment from the military industrial complex to sanctions, and
  • B) national strategy and capacity building for grassroots advocacy to build the political space for legislation to end military funding, create an arms embargo on Israel, and more accountability measures called for by the Palestinian people.
  • Oversee the progress and development of work plans, campaign plans, and annual plans for the organizing and advocacy team, along with SMART goals & benchmarks.
  • Bottom-line planning the programmatic aspects of the annual national conference.
  • Potentially, lead 1-2 of our campaign areas with support from organizing & advocacy team.
  • Engage in public speaking, writing, and media, lifting up the work of USCPR.
  • Build stronger organizers within the organization, our staff team, interns & fellows, and volunteer organizers in our networks.
  • Establish—in collaboration with the Executive Director—realistic, standardized mechanisms for the management, tracking and assessment of campaigns across departments.
  • Annual personnel evaluation of programmatic staff.
  • Own hiring process for organizing & advocacy team members, including identifying and prioritizing needs, creating hiring protocols and/or matrices, identifying hiring committees, and bottom-lining the hiring process.
  • Facilitate annual planning process with support of Executive Director.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications for this position:

  • Experience facilitating strategic planning processes for national campaign plans
  • At least two years of distributed organizing experience or transferable skills, for instance, working in national teams or coordinating national campaigns for chapter-based orgs
  • Experience & interest in managing and leading a full-time team of organizers or advocates, or transferable skills, for instance, leading a team of volunteers, mentoring younger organizers to achieve their growth goals, or playing a leadership role in a community-based, volunteer-led organization
  • Experience organizing in/with communities of color and/or building progressive organizing efforts, particularly in Palestinian or Arab, Black, Latinx, and/or Indigenous communities
  • At least seven years of relevant work experience, including at least three years in managerial roles
  • Deep passion for seeing the liberation of Palestine in our lifetime and an analysis of systems of oppression and possibilities for liberation as interconnected

Desired qualities:

  • Experience conducting and facilitating workshops and trainings
  • Pre-existing relationships with organizations in left spaces
  • Robust and transformative organizing strategy that advances Palestinian liberation demands in U.S. policy and synthesizes and pushes forward cross-movement partners’ demands
  • Experience in local community organizing
  • Experience in advocacy and policy spaces, particularly at the federal level
  • Effective communicator, both written and oral, and willingness to speak publicly and do media interviews on Palestine
  • Willingness and ability to travel required. The frequency of travel will depend on whether the candidate is in DC or working remotely.
