The Advising Program Manager will support the Advising department to create and implement an in-depth advising program for cohorts of students pursuing two-year degree programs, apprenticeships, certifications, and short-term training programs. Specifically, the Manager will be responsible for writing and adapting curriculum to be delivered as workshops and serve as the direct advisor to students from up to five local high schools. 

This full time opportunity is ideal for an individual excited by the idea of creating a program from scratch alongside a rapidly growing nonprofit organization. You will be joining an innovative and fun team to make an impact in Houston!

This position reports to the Chief Program Officer/Co-Founder. The work location is Houston, Texas but will be hybrid (some days in office, some days at home, some days at school site).  

YOU’D BE GREAT FOR THIS ROLE IF:

  • You enjoy writing an engaging curriculum for a high school audience and making tweaks based on user feedback. You know that it takes several rounds of implementation to finalize curriculum and enjoy the process of improvement.
  • You enjoy coaching high school seniors and recent graduates to build their capabilities to navigate enrollment in community college and/or vocational training programs.
  • You thrive in work settings in which you have full control to create and design programming that supports the department’s goals. You can develop with minimal existing program structures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Curriculum: Write and adapt curriculum for student-facing workshops with topics focusing on researching and creating target programs, storytelling and interviewing preparation, creating and refining resumes, applying to financial aid and scholarships, calculating ROI on postsecondary pathways, communication professionally, and more
  • Facilitation: Implement curriculum via application workshops with high school seniors seeking to enroll in community college or short-term vocational training programs
  • Advising Cohort: Follow up with a cohort of students during the students’ senior year of high school and for six months (December) after high school graduation (summer), providing support for students currently enrolled in a program and students seeking to find and apply to a program
  • Outreach: Collaborate within the Advising department to plan and implement outreach events

* Please note that if you are applying for both Program Manager roles, you only need to submit one asynchronous video interview. However, there is a separate video interview for the Strategy and Operations Director role. Part 1 for all roles is different and you must submit a separate Part 1 application for each role you are applying for.

HIRING TIMELINE:

The final round will involve in-person interviews with the team between December 14-17. We aim to make final decisions by December 23, 2021.
