Position

The Program Manager & Camp Director oversees the current classes and summer camp and develops new programming to provide the Hill House community with safe and rewarding recreational and educational opportunities.


Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s Degree is required, a background in recreation management or youth development preferred.

·        Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in camp and classroom program management and/or volunteer coordination including experience supervising/managing staff or team 

·        Demonstrated ability to serve as a motivating and supportive leader and confident manager

·        Customer service orientation and the qualities of a good listener, adept leader and effective delegator

·        Excellent verbal/written communication and follow-up/follow-through skills

·        Strong organizational, project management, deadline awareness, personnel savvy, problem solving, and time management skills, as well as demonstrated ability to exhibit flexibility and critical thinking skills when issues arise.

·        Ability to build relationships and community spirit

·        Knowledge of MS Office software and the ability to learn/utilize online registration system

·        Long-term interest in programs for children and/or non-profit/small-business management

·        Get-it-done instinct and can-do-it attitude

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage all aspects of our enrichment programs and summer camp including staffing and training enrichment program instructors, program office assistants, and summer camp staff.
  • Provide or oversee training and evaluation of instructors and summer camp staff that ensures consistent instructional principles and a consistent, high-quality experience for all participants.
  • Oversee execution of summer camp and school-year enrichment programming and enrichment special events (including, but not limited to Dads & Donuts, Saturday programming, Friday Night Fun, etc.).
  • Act as a primary contact for Hill House enrichment and summer camp participants and their families, as well as responds to parent complaints and concerns.
  • Helps develop and manage the enrichment and summer camp department budget including supplies, equipment, facility rental needs, staffing, and payroll.
  • Assist with the management of ActiveNet, Hill House’s online registration and website management software. Tasks include data entry, report generation, assisting members with registrations, updating website content.
  • Manage and perform any administrative functions related to administration of Hill House enrichment and summer camp programs, including: answering phones, data entry, filing, responding to email inquiries from program participants and member families, etc.
  • Manage and delegate set-up and break-down classrooms in advance of/at the close of programs. 
  • Perform market research on new program offerings and evaluate competitor programs.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Program Committee and the Board to analyze existing programs, develop new programs, and identify partners to support existing or new programs.
  • Help fellow staff by providing support before, during, and after Hill House special events including (but not limited to) fundraising events, community outreach events, and as needed.
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop and implement program-related operational systems and policies.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, evaluate, supervise, and manage full-time Program Coordinator and part-time program office assistants and enrichment instructors, as well as summer camp staff.
  • Develop new relationships with local businesses and organizations in the area (to support recruitment of volunteers and fundraising efforts).

Reporting

The Program Manager & Camp Director will report to Hill House’s Executive Director and work closely with all other staff as he or she directly oversees all aspects of Hill House’s enrichment and summer camp programming. The Program Manager will supervise the Program Coordinator, as well as the summer camp staff, and instructors and program assistants in the enrichment department. The Program Manager is the first point of contact for enrichment and summer camp staff and volunteers as well as for enrichment and summer camp participants, their families and the general public.


Work Conditions

Program Manager & Camp Director is a full-time, 40-hour FLSA Exempt, salaried position with benefits. The Program Manager & Camp Director will work regular hours, in addition to seasonal evenings and weekends in accordance with league scheduling and Hill House special events. 


He or she must have the ability and willingness to interact with the public, specifically with families. He or she must also have the ability to lift heavy boxes, equipment, tables and chairs, etc. weighing 50 lbs and be comfortable with light physical tasks including setting up conference rooms, carrying equipment, and occasional tidying up. Travel around the downtown Boston area is expected. A valid driver’s license is required. Frequent early evening and occasional weekend work is required seasonally.


Other responsibilities may be required by the Executive Director to fulfill the mission and goals of Hill House.
