Finance and Human Resources Assistant, FT

CENTER FOR FAMILY LIFE, a nationally-recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, seeks a flexible, detail-oriented college graduate to join our finance and human resources team.

Through an extensive portfolio of integrated services, Center for Family Life serves over 15,000 individuals in over 8,000 families each year.  It has a budget in excess of $10 million annually derived from grants and contracts with New York City and New York State agencies and significant support from major foundations that support human services in New York City. 

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:    

  • Assist in all finance, budget, accounting, and human resource-related tasks  
  • Assist Director of Finance in fiscal processes in collaboration with Co-Executive Directors and BTQ outsourced financial management firm for:  

o   accounts receivable, accounts payable 

o   financial reports to public and private funders to ensure compliance 

o   account analysis - prepare and monitor balance sheet, revenue/expense accounting 

o   bank reconciliations and credit card expense reports    

  • Help prepare materials for annual audits, 990 and other required filing documents 
  • Assist Director of Finance with monthly financial statements for Program Directors; communicating trends and deviations, and implementing corrective action plan if necessary 
  • Assist in preparing financial information for Board of Directors and finance committee 
  •  Assist Human Resources Coordinator with the completion of Human Resources responsibilities: 

o   Process and implement Personnel Change Forms 

o   Guide new hires and supervisors through the recruiting and onboarding process 

o   Communicate and handle sensitive information regarding benefits 

o   Assist the HR Coordinator in completing background checks 

o   Assist in implementing the Agency’s Employee Handbook and other policies 

o   Collect and prepare bi-weekly and monthly reports for the Director of Finance, benefit

companies, and other members of the organization  

  • Other projects as assigned by Director of Finance, HR Coordinator, Co-Executive Directors 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field 
  • Experience in a non-profit organization - preferably in a setting with significant public funding 
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with proficiency in excel spreadsheets
