AID FOR AIDS International (AFA) and partner organization AID FOR LIFE (AFL) seek an enthusiastic, thoughtful, hard-working, and detail-oriented grant-writer to join our small but dynamic development team.

The position entails drafting grant proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and other materials to foundation, corporate, and government funders; as well as some amount of funder research, tracking of deadlines, and archiving of past submissions. Maintaining and developing relationships with individual and institutional funders is also a part of this work.

The ideal candidate will be adept at translating programmatic ideas (received from program staff who are engaged in implementing the work on the ground) into compelling narratives for funders, and at identifying key questions to bring to program staff to refine and revise proposals ahead of submission.

Familiarity with HIV advocacy, HIV prevention and treatment, sexual and reproductive health education, immigration experiences and issues, LGBTIQ experiences and issues, Latin American and Caribbean social, cultural, and political contexts, and New York City, U.S. and international funders are beneficial to thriving in this position.

The grant-writer reports directly to the Executive Director and Director of Operations & Development and works closely with the Director of Programs and other staff members.

AFA and AFL are dynamic, rapidly growing organizations that require an energetic, motivated grant-writer to run with short-term funding applications and work assiduously at longer-term funding opportunities.

Qualified candidates should possess excellent writing ability, computer skills and database management skills. The candidate must be highly organized with the ability to work effectively under pressure, use independent judgment and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints. Previous experience and a proven track record in securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs will be beneficial to this role.

Qualifications:

·  Conversational Spanish skills - able to communicate with Program Staff in Spanish

·  At least a bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)

·  Experience grant writing in the social sector required

·  Outstanding writing, communication and research skills are essential

·  Proven track record of securing funding strongly preferred

· Exposure to and interest in Latin America/immigration issues desired

· Interest in public health and HIV/AIDS services and prevention desired

Job Responsibilities:

· Primary responsibilities include preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in the areas.

· Prepare grant proposals, beginning by performing research or by conferring with program staff or management about funding leads or grant opportunities.

·  To develop their proposals, the grant writer should familiarize themselves with the organization's programs, goals, external presentation, and financial needs.

·  After compiling all the information needed, compose and submit proposals.

·  Keep careful records to track proposals. If a grant-making organization requests additional

information, supply the missing items.

·   Research and identify

new government, corporate, foundation and private funding prospects.

·  Generate proposals and supporting documents in response to solicitations.

·  Maintain and implement funding calendar activities, including cultivation activities.

·  Write reports to government, corporate, foundational and other funders.

·  Act as liaison with program staff as needed.

·  Special projects as needed.
