If you’re passionate about positively impacting the lives of young children and making a difference in the world of early childhood education, consider joining The Child and Family Network Centers (CFNC) as a Family Services Worker for our award winning preschool program for low-income families. An Alexandria based nonprofit, CFNC provides caring, high-quality, free early education and related services to at-risk children and their families in their own neighborhoods in order to prepare them for success in school and life.


Position Summary: 

The Family Services Worker for CFNC provides high quality, culturally sensitive casework counseling and case management services to Preschool children and their families. Responsible for all phases of case management service provision, community outreach and evaluation. Ensures use of all resources available to deliver the highest quality of casework, medical, educational and vocational services possible to preschool children and their families. Adheres to NASW, ACA or APA code of ethics.


Position Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work. One to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Knowledge of MS Office programs such as Microsoft Word, and Excel is required. Social work or casework experience required.    Bilingual: English/Spanish or second language.    Have a United States driver’s license.  Experience in program evaluation and outcome management preferred. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

   PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:  

  • Ensure the provision of high quality, culturally sensitive, ethical and professional family support services to CFNC preschool children and their families.
  • Conduct Ages and Stages Assessment with students and their families to assess and review child’s developmental, and social and emotional needs.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments, develop behavioral plans in conjunction with families and teachers, and monitor progress.
  • Work with families to complete their stated goals including regular contacts to support their efforts and ensure follow through.
  • Provide casework counseling to children and their families.
  • Perform all required fieldwork (e.g. home visits, meeting with clients).
  • Monitor child attendance and work with parents to ensure children have regular attendance.
  • Provides appropriate referrals to available community resources and follow up as needed.
  • Respond to client emergencies as needed and provide necessary follow up as needed.
  • Act as a mandated reporter on all incidents of child abuse and neglect and provide follow up as needed.
  • Conduct weekly classroom observations to identify developmental delays and behavioral issues, monitor children’s progress, and provide in class behavioral support when needed.
  • Refer students to Child Find for evaluation if needed and attend all eligibility and IEP meetings.
  • Lead or co-lead Social Skills Group sessions.
  • Attend weekly individual and group meetings, as well as quarterly review and staff meetings.
  • Attend monthly FSW meetings and quarterly Family Support Project meetings.
  • Work in conjunction with teaching, health care and educational /vocational program staff to provide coordinated services to clients.
  • Create and maintain accurate and current client records including completed psychosocial, service plan, progress notes and copies of all reports, letters, referrals, etc. pertaining to the work with the client.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.


ADMINISTRATION:

  • Assist in recruitment and enrollment of families and children.
  • Ensure all case records and data base entries are up to date and organized, including all necessary signatures.
  • Partners with inter-agency staff and other organizations and community agencies to establish and maintain professional relationships in the coordination of services, referral and advocacy.
  • Complete and submit necessary reports in a timely manner.
  • Provide written reports and program outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Promote the agency professionally in the community and participate in fundraising and speaking engagements.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Must be culturally sensitive and experienced working with immigrant populations.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and flexibility to coordinate a schedule of fieldwork, meetings, and reporting.
  • Must have a good knowledge and understanding of assessment, including implementation, interpretation and ability to understand outcomes and clinical reports.
  • Must have good verbal and writing skills in order to effectively communicate with clients and staff, and provide required documentation.
  • Must exhibit maturity and control of emotions, the ability to empathize, plus firmness and warmth, in order to command the respect, trust and confidence of children and their families.
  • Participates in workshops, trainings, and/or meetings to enhance skills and knowledge to maintain professional and technical knowledge.

                                                               

Experience, Essential Skills and Personal Characteristics:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate in Spanish (i.e. speak fluently and write intermediate level English and Spanish.
  • Must have a highly supportive style and be a team player.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and have strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher is required. Social service data base experience preferred.


Annual Salary range: $17,000 - $20,000


Flexible Work Schedule: 16-20 hours per week, hours ranging from 7:45-6:15PM, Monday through Friday, plus occasional evening or weekend work with schedule flexibility.
