Position Overview 

Saga Education is seeking a Staff Accountant to support and manage general accounting and financial processes of organization. The position will be reporting to the Senior Accountant.


The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting and managing the financial daily operations within the Finance & Accounting department, ensuring compliance with Federal Grants, awards, contracts, FASB rules and Saga’s policies. This person is knowledgeable in the field of finance and accounting, has a sense of accountability and ability to work in a team. The Staff Accountant is a part of a collaborative, mission-driven and evolving team to uphold our organizational standards of excellence at all times.

Responsibilities 

  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files
  • Reconcile all key accounts, communicating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Record payroll and benefits for two company codes, using time sheets to guide classification of employees and fellows payroll
  • Review credit card holders expense reports to ensure correct coding, description, and validity of expense with organization policies
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes
  • Support in audit planning and gathering documentation
  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed with ad-hoc reports and projects

Experience & Qualifications 

  • You believe in Saga’s mission
  • You have 5+ years of proven experience in Finance and/or Accounting field
  • You understand the accounting FASB rules
  • You are feedback and solutions-oriented 
  • You are flexible, adaptable, and willing to pivot on short notice to meet the team’s deadlines
  • You have Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • You are proficient in Microsoft excel
  • Experience in non-profit sector is a plus
