Title:                   Payroll & HRIS Specialist                                                                              

Reports To:        Chief of Organizational Growth & Human Resources       

Location:            Brighton, MA  


The Payroll & HRIS Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the payroll and HRIS system for JCHE . This includes carrying out responsibilities in the following functional areas: time off and attendance tracking, payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance.   Confidentiality of all employee, department, and organization information and compliance is a key element of this role. 


·        Handles setup, data input, and reporting in ADP Workforce Now Payroll & HRIS system. This includes data entry for new hires, terminations and employee changes

·        Responsible for ensuring accuracy and completeness of bi-weekly payroll input and output; participates in all tasks related to biweekly payroll submission

·        Provides training and works with staff and supervisors on time card reporting responsibilities

·        Ensures all information is properly filed in employee’s personnel file

·        Perform general benefits administration including processing employee benefits enrollments and benefit changes in various benefit portals

·        Updates organization chart for easy employee access

·        Conducts recruitment tasks for all personnel including:  job postings, resume collection for hiring supervisors; background checks, and assisting hiring supervisors when requested with phone interviews and interview scheduling

·        Prepares new hire “on-boarding” materials to ensure that paperwork and benefit setup is completed in a timely manner 

·        Answer employee questions and addresses employee concerns with company; including employee safety, welfare, wellness and health

·        Prepares terminating employee information including benefit conversion and/or continuation information 

·        Participates in developing HR department goals, objectives and systems

·        Provides administrative support to the HR Team as needed (e.g., coordination of training meetings and material, coordination of benefit communications and Open Enrollment Meetings)


·        3-5 years Payroll & HRIS experience required

·        College degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and work experience

·        Hands on experience with payroll processing and HRIS maintenance and analysis required with ADP Workforce Now a strong plus. Must have experience working for an employer with both salary and hourly employees

·        Knowledge of and experience with information systems setup and maintenance is essential; including facility with input of data, report writing and generation

·        Non-profit experience a plus

·        Working knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws as they relate to HR issues

·        Solid oral and written communications skills are essential, as well as solid math skills

·        Excellent customer service skills and experience

·        Requires excellent computer skills coupled with proficiency in the use of computerized systems including MS Excel and Word 

·        Must be detail oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

·        Strong collaboration skills and excellent interpersonal skills are essential

·        Confidentiality, tact and discretion are a must

·        Ability to travel to locations in Newton and Framingham a plus
