About the Role:

Braven NYC is seeking an External Affairs Manager to play a key role in the region’s development efforts to raise over $2 million through philanthropic, university and employer partnerships, and support with internal and external communications, brand-building and thought-leadership, and state and local policy. The External Affairs Manager will contribute to development goals for the region, support the cultivation and stewardship of strong partnerships with employer and community partners that are inspired by Braven’s story and its Fellows, and advance Braven’s brand in NYC.

In this role, you report to the Executive Director in New York City and manage 1 part-time intern. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Planning & Execution: 50% 

  • Plan and execute all external events such as site visits, lunch and learns, treks, jobs/impact report events etc.
  • Steward external affairs operations with excellence and enthusiasm: 
  • conducting research and outreach
  • crafting communications, presentations, and proposals
  • tracking progress towards the ongoing engagement strategy of donors, employer partners, university partners, and potential board members
  • entering and tracking external affairs data and information in Salesforce 

Fundraising Support: 20% 

  • Collaborate with the external affairs team to provide information needed for grants and ensure all reporting requirements are met
  • Manage the cultivation and ongoing stewardship of a portfolio of donors and employer partners (those $5k and under)

Brand Building: 15%

  • Conduct research on and secure opportunities for the NYC region to build brand visibility and awareness 
  • Manage the New York City team’s social media strategy to connect Fellows to opportunities and help inspire our various partners,stakeholders, and potential champions by connecting them to our mission

Board Management: 5%

  • Support the Executive Director on the recruitment, coordination and management of a regional Board
  • Participate in individual annual and quarterly planning

A+ Team 10%

  • Use and maintain team systems (tactical dashboard, Asana, Slack, etc)
  • Participate in individual annual and quarterly planning
  • Manage 1 intern

  • 3 years of aligned professional experience with a track record of managing multiple projects at once, event management, and stewardship cultivation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, adapting the message(s) for a range of external audiences
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Strong soft-skills and ability to manage up, across, and through layers of an organization 
  • Proven ability to create, operationalize, and manage project plans, meeting milestones and deadlines
  • Knowledge of (or the drive to get quickly up to speed) the philanthropic, employer market, and policy landscape in NYC
  • Strong alignment with, passion for, and commitment to the mission and values of Braven
  • Experience with Salesforce a plus, but not a requirement

USD 50,600 - USD 63,200

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your fit for the role, will likely be between $50,600-$63,200. Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity and the inequities that can emerge from salary negotiations, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead each salary offer is determined carefully upfront using benchmarking. You will have an opportunity to discuss salary in more detail after you begin the application process.

  • Unlimited vacation time in addition to org-wide shut downs in July and the end of the calendar year
