Job Description

The Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute (cc-TDI) is a non-profit, freestanding research organization based in Beaverton, Oregon. CC-TDI is focused on advancing treatment options for the most urgent issues facing children with cancer. Being within an independent entity enables the cc-TDI team of biologists and bio-medical engineers to achieve results with cost control, speed and laser focus. By substantiating targets on cancer cells and determining how to safely deliver effective treatments cc-TDI identifies hope-filled discoveries to be prioritized in clinical trials for children.

POSITION SUMMARY

CC-TDI is seeking an intellectually curious, organized and dynamic professional to undertake the rapidly evolving role of Communications and Fundraising Manager. This position has responsibility for actively collaborating with staff, Board and volunteers to help shape and implement a progressive and effective communications and fundraising strategy with a particular focus on building cc-TDI’s philanthropic and corporate funding base.

CC-TDI requires candidates to have skill in translating complex content into simple, compelling stories and develop communication strategies that have the power to shape public narrative. Experience in science, a health non-profit or communications firm is strongly desired. High-level skill in working across a variety of media platforms is essential. Candidates must also have a proven track record of successful income generation, including through appeals, regular giving and a strong supporter journey.

This position requires an exceptional writer and creative thinker who will have strong aesthetic instincts for digital layouts and publishing while staying true to cc-TDI’s brand identity. She/he will be skilled at working with donors, cc-TDI staff, Board and other community members to create compelling materials, and maintain a vibrant, high-quality on-line presence. She/he will provide professional insight and actively contribute to communications and fundraising related challenges and opportunities that align with the organization’s mission and plan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Fundraising

· Maintain and develop fundraising database of supporter contacts and donors.

· In collaboration with Development Committee, design and implement fundraising activities to meet strategic goals.

· Assist with implementation of corporate cause marketing plan customized for local prospects.

· Research and identify potential donors to feed into the prospect pipeline.

· Maintain cc-TDI’s presence on third party charity platforms.

· Co-ordinate and ensure smooth running of small individual donor programme, including managing communications and follow-ups with small donors.

· Ensure major donors or companies are happy with their donation scheme and are kept regularly informed of progress and key milestones.

· Manage events. Liaise with event partners and sponsors to maximise fundraising opportunities.

· Manage and steward any ad hoc requests from individuals wanting to fundraise on cc-TDI’s behalf.

· Attend external events as needed as a representative of cc-TDI.

· Actively engage volunteer group.

2. Communications and Marketing

· Actively contribute to the creation and implementation of cc-TDI’s communications and marketing plan, which includes envisioning and aiding design of cc-TDI’s media strategy, website and e-communications to grow brand awareness and engage donors.

· Manage cc-TDI digital platforms to ensure consistent, coherent and navigable content across website, social media accounts, blog, and other communication tools.

· Write, edit and distribute newsletters, press releases, statements and other e-communications as required.

· Publish and promote marketing, editorial and fundraising content.

· Manage cc-TDI’s communications and event marketing calendar.

· Strategize online promotions and SEO strategy with Executive Director and Development Committee.

· Create and maintain a tracking system for website communications relating to grant deliverables.

· Seek opportunities for Board members and Executive Director to engage with individual donors, Foundations, corporate donors and other organizations on social media and curate up-to-date lists of key accounts.

· Explore and present opportunities for cc-TDI employees to serve as industry experts across all media platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Essential

· Passion for cc-TDI’s mission, ability to be flexible and a good sense of humor.

· Experience in fundraising and marketing administration and research.

· Exceptional organizational skills with experience in managing multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.

· A hands-on approach and can-do attitude.

· Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, with an ability to work independently and seize opportunities.

· Demonstrated ability to write clearly/succinctly for different purposes on complex topics.

· Outstanding verbal and written communication skills (framing, grammar/spelling, editing, proofreading)

· Be passionate about digital strategy, results and analytics with a strong understanding of social media platforms, associated tools, distinct uses and audiences.

Desirable

· Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field preferred.

· Previous non-profit experience.

· Technical skills, including Adobe Creative Suite or similar, WordPress and basic HTML.

· Familiarity with Mailchimp, content management systems, and ability to learn new programs quickly.

· Must hold a valid driver’s license and own a vehicle.

· Have the ability to work some evenings and weekends.

· Familiarity with the Portland philanthropic and business community.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
