Community Democracy in Action (CDA) is hiring a full-time Campaign Coordinator.

CDA is a fiscally sponsored project of Sustainable Economies Law Center (SELC) and is co-managed by volunteer members of the Community Democracy Project (CDP). CDA will be gathering signatures in 2022 to put a People's Budget Amendment on Oakland's general election ballot. Many of our signatures will come from volunteers, but our Campaign Coordinator will manage the paid gatherers.

We encourage applicants who are:

  • Women
  • Gender non-conforming
  • LGBTQIA+
  • From poor or working-class backgrounds
  • People with disabilities

Pay and hours: $25/hour, 30 hours/week, with Kaiser health insurance. The Coordinator will be paid twice a month and must have access to direct deposit.

Timeframe: January to September 2022. The signature-gathering campaign will likely run from March to September 2022.

Location: Oakland, CA.

Reporting and training: The Coordinator will report to CDA. CDA will provide the Coordinator with training, supplies, and tools for the job.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can effectively manage a diverse group of people
  • Pays close attention to details
  • Communicates compassionately and directly
  • Is reliable and responsive
  • Is passionate about grassroots democracy
  • Lives in Oakland, or lives nearby and has strong ties to Oakland
  • Has access to reliable transportation

The Coordinator will need to:

  • Post job descriptions and attend networking and hiring events in January and February 2022.
  • Conduct interviews and hire 10-15 qualified signature gatherers by March 2022.
  • Make sure all paid gatherers get trained by CDA, or train new recruits as needed.
  • Schedule paid gatherers' shift times and locations, and send reminders as needed.
  • Distribute supplies to gatherers and get more supplies from CDA as needed.
  • Make sure all gatherers are paid correctly and on time (with help from SELC).
  • Collect and record daily shift reports from all paid gatherers.
  • Collect all signed petitions from gatherers and deliver them to CDA every week for validation (quality check).
  • Attend weekly meetings with CDA to report progress, discuss strategy, and decide on necessary changes.
  • Make sure gatherers are making their quotas, and end contracts with gatherers who cannot meet requirements.
  • Adapt to CDA's evolving campaign needs.
