As a crucial election cycle approaches, it's more critical than ever that all Americans have equal access to the ballot box. Tragically, more and more states have made rules making it harder for people of color to exercise their right to vote. Wisconsin Conservation Voices is seeking a State Director of Voter Registration to develop and manage a 2020 voter engagement campaign. This person will manage a program focused on voter registration in traditionally underrepresented communities in Madison and Milwaukee.

Job Responsibilities

·       Manage Wisconsin Conservation Voices’ nonpartisan voter registration campaign in Madison and Milwaukee ensure progress toward programmatic goals

·       Manage hiring of office area directors and canvassers

·       Develop, implement, and conduct customized training for voter registration

·       Manage and coach the Madison Area Director and the Milwaukee Area Director

·       Build relationships with community partners and setup site-based voter registration events at community centers, churches, businesses, and other gathering places

·       Troubleshoot and problem solve day-to-day issues as they arise

·       Organize and implement efforts to help individuals obtain voter identification

·       Work with vendors and voter registration database

·       Ensure programs are executed with a high standard of quality control, professionalism, appropriate long-range perspective, and in compliance with all applicable laws, including conducting on-site compliance reviews

·       Do voter registration in the field periodically

·       Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Experience

·       Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working on voter registration, electoral, community organizing or labor organizing campaigns, including successful experience managing campaigns, focused on communities of color

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to juggle multiple tasks, solve problems and set priorities in a fast-paced, high-performance environment. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills

·       Strong understanding of individual motivation and how to engage people (mastery of core organizing and mobilizing skills)

·       Detail oriented and able to work with staff to execute the day-to-day operations of a large-scale voter registration campaign

·       Comfortable working with people of all ideologies and share our commitment to increasing racial and socio-economic diversity in the conservation movement

·       Creative and ambitious, always seeking out new ways to improve the organization’s programs and identify solutions to voter suppression

·       Working knowledge of compliance issues and regulations related to 501(c)(3) organizations

 Cultural Competence: Shares our commitment to integrating racial justice and equity into the work we do and ensuring an inclusive organizational culture. Familiarity with the complexity of issues and obstacles facing communities of color participation in U.S. democracy. Flexibility, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and ability to bring creative ideas and a fresh perspective to an evolving civic engagement program. Familiarity with Wisconsin democratic processes and in-state communities preferred.

 Salary and Benefits: $48,000- $60,000. Salary commensurate with experience. Strong benefits package, including health and dental coverage, mobile phone stipend, and paid time off. This is a temporary position through November 2020.
