Harlem Summer Arts Camp Aquatics Director

Harlem School of the Arts seeks a passionate, experienced aquatics director to oversee pool time during our annual arts summer camp at the Herb Alpert Center in Harlem. Formerly ARTScape, The Harlem Summer Arts Experience celebrates Harlem’s rich history and the interdisciplinary approach to learning by offering age appropriate activity sessions from all five disciplines, music, dance, theater, visual arts and musical theater. The 2021 Harlem Summer Arts Experience camp will run from July 6 - August 13 in two week sessions, with a staff training and orientation on the week of June 28 - July 2. Each session culminates with a performance for campers’ families and friends. 


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Harlem Summer Arts Experience Aquatics Director must oversee all swimming activities as well as supervise lifeguards during swimming activities, train swim staff as needed and implement the camp safety plan.


THIS POSITION IS PENDING NYC POOL REOPENING, AS WELL AS NECESSARY PERMITS TO RESERVE THE JACKIE ROBINSON POOL FOR HSA’S CAMP.


AQUATICS DIRECTOR REQUIREMENTS:

  • be at least 21 years of age
  • Education: high school or equivalent (preferred)
  • Have a minimum of: one season of previous experience as a camp aquatics director at a New York State children’s camp and OR two seasons of previous experience consisting of at least 12 weeks as a children’s camp lifeguard which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time; OR 18 weeks of previous experience as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach, which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time.
  • Be certified in CPR-Pro
  • Be certified in Lifeguard Management
  • Attend NYC Aquatics Director Orientation


Schedule: 24 hours per week PENDING NYC POOL REOPENING AND PERMITS

Tuesday, July 6 - Friday, Aug 13

Monday: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Tuesday: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm , 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Wednesday: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm , 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Thursday: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm , 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Friday: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm


License/Certification:

  • Lifeguard Training (Required)
  • Advanced First Aid Certification (Required by first day of camp)
  • CPR- Pro Certification (Required by first day of camp)
  • Lifeguard Management Certification (Required by first day of camp)
