Position Overview: The Executive Director reports directly to JustHope’s Board of Directors and provides leadership and management for the organization in the following areas:

●    Partner and Donor Development and Communications

●    Fundraising

●    Program and Staff Management and Administration

●    Strategic and Operational Planning

Job Duties:

Partner and Donor Development and Communications

●    Establish and maintain a Partner and Donor Development Program. The Executive Director will work with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and other partners and donors to ensure all aspects of the Partner and Donor Development Program are implemented

●    Be the thought-leader in creating new models of partnership, including new ways partners can fund the organization

●    Identify and recruit new partners and donors in the U.S. and Nicaragua, including through the Executive Director’s own network of contacts

●    Respond to outreach and education opportunities that may yield new partners or donors (by participating in speaking engagements, events, classroom presentations, etc.)


●    Oversee communication strategy and work with staff and contractors to produce, maintain, and update all communication outlets (e.g., website, social media, newsletters, case for support, annual report, printed materials)

●    Lead partner/donor communications, including with personal contacts, to ensure the cultivation and maintenance of excellent partner/donor relationships

●    Be the thought-leader in devising new, more active and participatory, ways to engage current partners, especially in activities that do not require travel


●    Expect limited domestic travel and possible travel to Nicaragua related to these efforts, as conditions and budget allow, and with Board approval


Fundraising

●    Develop and implement annual Board-approved Fundraising Plan with monthly targets, and give a monthly progress report to the Board of Directors

●    Lead the planning and implementation of fundraising campaigns and events as outlined in the Fundraising Plan

●    Recruit and manage volunteers for fundraising campaigns and events

●    Develop a grant program (grant search, writing, management, and reporting), potentially working with grant-writing staff, contractors, and volunteers, if applicable to the Fundraising Plan


Program and Staff Management and Administration

●    Oversee the development, planning, and execution of the organization’s programming in a manner that is consistent with the Strategic and Operating Plans (see below)

●    Lead, manage, and supervise all staff in the U.S. and Nicaragua, including hiring and firing as needed. Manage transitions in the event of staff changes

●    Monitor the work of program staff and progress of projects through regular and effective communication

●    Expect regular, limited travel to Nicaragua to manage staff and supervise programming, as conditions and budget allow, and with Board approval


●    Work with the Board Treasurer to prepare an annual proposed budget and monthly financial reports to present to the full Board of Directors

●    Ensure adherence to the Board-approved annual budget

●    Ensure the timely performance of regular bookkeeping tasks and the management of accounts payable with staff in both the U.S. and Nicaragua

●    Ensure compliance with all applicable U.S. (local, state, federal) and Nicaraguan regulations and manage organizational risk (e.g., file Form 990 and other tax forms, maintain insurance policies current, etc.)

●    Attend Board of Directors meetings and prepare and submit reports to the Board as requested

●    Regular travel to Tulsa, OK, will be required.


Strategic and Operational Planning

●     Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish and maintain a 5-year Strategic Plan. (Typically, such plan is updated every 2-3 years unless specific conditions arise to warrant more frequent updates)

●     Work with staff to draft an annual Operating Plan, consistent with the Strategic Plan, for each year. This plan is submitted to the Board of Directors for review, refinement, and approval no later than October 31 of each year


Qualifications:

A successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, warm, approachable, and charismatic. They will be self-assured and have excellent communication skills. The candidate will also be able to confidently manage their onboarding and transitional period, during which the organization’s founder and Board of Directors will provide necessary information and introductions to organizational partners.

They will also possess:

●     Alignment with the mission and values of JustHope, Inc., and an ability to authentically project these values as the principal representative of the organization

●     Three years of experience in a position with comparable duties and level of responsibility; a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is also preferred

●     A high level of proficiency in Spanish (speaking, reading, writing) is required; fluency is highly preferred

●     Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including supervising others and experience in program or project management

●     Cross-cultural competence

●     Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive, sometimes complex situations with grace

●     Excellent written and oral communication skills; must be able to engage with groups of various sizes and write in many different styles

●     Familiarity with the principles of crafting an effective nonprofit communications strategy

●     A high level of proficiency with various social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)

●     Familiarity with the principles of nonprofit fundraising and development, as well as demonstrated success in fundraising

●     Experience with grant programs (searching, crafting applications, managing funds, and reporting)

●     Demonstrated experience in handling financial responsibilities with detail and utmost integrity, and knowledge of the legal aspects of running a non-profit organization

●     Knowledge of general bookkeeping principles and familiarity with QuickBooks software

●     Proficiency with standard office computer operating systems and software


Compensation package: Commensurate with experience, $45,000-$60,000. Please note that JustHope, Inc., is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Completion of a background check will be required prior to hiring.
