Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Residential Services Supervisor, and in consultation with the LSH Jane Addams Place Homeless Services On-Call Staff, the Relief Resident Advisor is

responsible for orderliness and safety of the shelter program and residents, upkeep of the facility, and the maintaining a safe, clean, and hospitable residential space for families experiencing homelessness. The Relief Resident Advisor will provide on-call shift support for shelter programs and activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist new residents in completing intake packet. Review Point of Service (POS) and ensure that resident has correct number of children and are placed in the correct room; 
  • Review resident rules with new residents and familiarize them with the facility;
  • Monitor resident activities to ensure compliance with shelter rules. Report problems in
  • log and on required forms;
  • Oversee resident chores;
  • Maintain an accurate resident count at curfew each evening;
  • Monitor the dining area during mealtime, complete point of service form, distribute
  • snacks to all residents;
  • Conduct hourly rounds through facility to ensure safety and order;
  • Support all programs in the facility; Provide written case notes on shift activity, programs,
  • and clients interactions;
  • Attend RA staff meetings and complete all professional development trainings;
  • Perform other duties as assigned;
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and trauma informed trainings;

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent Certificate.

Must possess strong interpersonal skills and an ability to diffuse challenging situations. 

Ability to multi-task and provide good customer service to clients. 

Maintain a professional demeanor within the shelter and when interfacing with clients. 

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 

Must be a pro-active problem solver and dedicated to the mission of the organization.

Must have knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office suite programs such as Word and Outlook.

Previous residential experience preferred.

*Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb four (4) flights of stairs. *
