POSITION SUMMARY:

The Family and Children’s Services division connect families with child care and other services to support children placed in, or at risk of being placed in, foster care, utilizing the full range of in-house and community-based services. This team addresses complex situations with multiple stressors to support the needs of families and child care educators with a trauma-sensitive lens. The Trauma-Informed Trainer/Coach will join this team, and support child care educators’ efforts to continuously improve the quality of their programs and to create the best experiences for children in their care, ranging from ages 0-13. S/he/they supports programs via an array of services, including individualized coaching, inclusion, and trauma-informed care training, facilitated peer support and small group learning, establishing defined quality improvement goals.

Responsibilities:

The Trauma-Informed Trainer /Coach core responsibilities are to motivate, support and help child care educators implement defined goals to improve their skills and abilities so that they can provide high-quality care in alignment with the Family Child Care Environmental Rating Scale (FCCERs) and Trauma-Informed practices.


In the context of that responsibility, the Trauma Informed Trainer /Coach will:

  • With Manager support, coordinate and facilitate ongoing Trauma-Informed Care training, coaching and support services to child care educators, and model appropriate trauma sensitive strategies when working with children.
  • Help child care educators develop goals for program improvement and translate those into a prioritized actionable plan to meet Family Child Care Home Education Networks and Emergency Child Care Bridge Program for Foster Children contract deliverables.
  • Use the FCCERS tool to assess the care environment of child care programs participating in the Family Child Care Home Education Network (FCCHEN).
  • Maintain accurate records of provider assessments, attendance at trainings, needs assessment etc. and analyze related data to demonstrate impact of supports per various contract requirements.
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders—child care educators, community-based organizations, funders, and content experts—in a manner that engenders rapport and credibility.
  • With Manager support, facilitate trainings for staff on trauma informed practices support staff when trauma-related questions and concerns arise, as they work with families and providers.
  • Document service delivery/utilization and solicit customer feedback to continuously improve services and assess progress and impact.
  • Support in-county and out-of-county child care educators to structure environments, routines and interactions that result in high-quality programming, trauma informed practices and promotes each child’s healing, growth and development.


Required Qualifications:

  • BA and 3+ years’ experience in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
  • Experience with child care assessment tools, such as FCCERS, CLASS, DRDP, ASQ and ACE’s.
  • Experience providing Trauma Informed Care training, coaching and support to families and children in foster care.
  • Knowledge and experience with Family Child Care programs and supports.
  • Experience with basic curriculum development, dual language learning, inquiry-based learning, quality improvement planning, implementation, and systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding and high-level experience working with adult learning concepts and strategies.
  • Must have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Must be comfortable, and able to travel within all Bay Area communities.
  • A background clearance is required.


Preferred:

  • Specialization/Certification in Developmental Assessment, Curriculum Development, California CSEFEL/Teaching Pyramid, or Infant Toddler Specialization, e.g., PITC certified.
  • Master’s Degree


Physical Requirements:  

  • Manual dexterity to use a telephone, computer, and other office equipment
  • Physical agility to lift and carry materials; bend, stoop, walk and reach overhead
  • Must have the ability to travel to meet with clients; observe, capture notes, and interact with children during assessments.
