Sound like the impossible dream? Perhaps it's not too far off. We ask this important question:

We spend 12 years in school preparing for a career. How much time do we spend preparing for a relationship? Any relationship?

Have you been asking this question along with the rest of the population? With the increase in violence, sexual assault, suicides, bullying, substance abuse, self-harm, etc. at schools and colleges, Relationship Education is ever more necessary.

The Relationship Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization seeking a Managing Director.

If you are a college graduate or even if you've been out in the world a while, this job will give you a great sense of purpose and you might very well learn about relationships in ways you may not have imagined before.

Here is what we do and who we are:

The Relationship Foundation (TRF) has been teaching its "Healthy Relationships 101" program in high schools in New York City and in cities in several other states for eight years. We instruct students and teachers on how to sustain healthy, thriving, meaningful, and fulfilling relationships with everyone in their lives.

One of the most effective things we do is support students and teachers to articulate their needs and feelings without blame and judgment and to listen empathically: everything we wish we had learned growing up. Given how disconnected (or over connected) our society is today, learning this work can make all the difference both in and out of school. The communication skill set we teach is based on Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication (NVC), and the results from the implementation of this work has been extraordinary.

Equally as important is introducing the Trauma-Informed Schools approach to help schools' staff to finally understand that so called problem students are actually kids with toxic stress in their brain chemistry due to abuse, neglect from unstable home lives (or homeless lives). We have a book and a curriculum that are available on our website. We recently adapted our curriculum as a guidebook for facilitators which is being used by women's organizations, domestic violence prevention facilities, drug rehab centers, prison counselors, and mental health clinics.

We write for the Huffington Post, and we have a partnership in development with Scholastic to get our work out to schools nationwide.

A candidate will be selected for the skills they bring to the organization, their commitment to the organization's mission, as well as their ability to work full-time. You must have a good sense of organization. You see this as your next step career wise and you are a highly motivated self-starter. In a sense, you will essentially be training to co-direct. This is challenging but rewarding work.

You should be prepared to work at all levels of the organization and have excellent writing skills. We use Mac OS systems. Excellent typing and computer skills are also required as there is much correspondence and follow up to be done.

Job duties include the following:

1. Administrative, emails related to various aspects of the foundation, schools and organizations interested in our classes, workshops, curriculum, grantors, the board of directors, etc.

2. Delegate and supervise tasks performed by interns

3. Oversee website content and updates

4. Organize and develop our social media and/or supervise interns who do so

You must be prepared to work closely with the director. In the process, you will learn the entire history of the project, and at the same time, help to focus on leads and opportunities to maximize their potential. This position is for someone who is a take charge, self-starting, motivated organizer.

The office atmosphere is casual and informal as we work out of a clean and comfortable 900 sq. ft. apartment in the East Village. There are four workstations and generally, there are two to three interns helping out. Supervising the interns will be one of your assignments.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for someone who dreams big, wants to join a non-profit on the brink of wider recognition and desires to make a difference in the world. If you want to get up in the morning and do something you believe in, then this may be what you've been looking for.

The initial pay is $400 per week. We're technically a start-up, but we are closing in on grants and a deal with Scholastic that will likely lead to an increase in pay. A passionate advocate for change is needed who can wait out the low pay for the likelihood of a stable and rewarding position.
