Sixth & I is seeking a Development Assistant to join our Development Team. Qualified candidates are highly organized, detail-oriented self-starters with excellent time management and multi-tasking skills. This is an outstanding opportunity for an aspiring development professional to obtain broad exposure to many facets of fundraising and development; the Assistant plays a critical role in the organization’s fundraising function, assuming ownership for the maintenance of our donor database and gift entry and acknowledgement procedures in addition to providing support for donor events and other fundraising initiatives. This position is also responsible for many key administrative functions for the department, including pulling lists of constituents, organizing data, and sending mailings. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Development.



Gift Entry and Acknowledgements

o  Enter gifts promptly and accurately into Raiser’s Edge, the organization’s donor database

o  Generate acknowledgements and thank you letters for donors on a weekly basis

o   Prepare weekly reports detailing gifts received for accounting and audit purposes

Database Mailings, Upkeep, and Maintenance

o  Maintain integrity of information in database and ensure data is entered consistently and accurately

o  Enter records of event attendees promptly and accurately on a weekly basis

o  Update patron records as needed

o  Log solicitor interactions and donor communications

o  Pull lists for targeted mailings, invitations, or other initiatives as requested

o  Send mailings and presale offers to selected segments

Grant Compliance and Evaluation

o  Design and disseminate surveys after events as assigned

o  Maintain and update the organization’s event attendance document on a monthly basis

Special Event Assistance

o   Assist with the planning and execution of stewardship and cultivation events

o   Arrange invitations, food, event space, and other logistics of the event

o   Engage in superior customer service to current and potential donors, supporters and patrons

Administrative Support to CEO

o  Maintain calendar and appointments

o  Book occasional travel

o  Manage expense reports

o  Other duties as assigned

Perform other tasks as assigned in support of the Development team’s goals; this may include grant writing and donor stewardship/cultivation opportunities.


o   Required: 1-2 years of related work experience

o   Familiarity with professional fundraising departments

o   High level of computer proficiency with advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite

o   Experience with databases, preferably experience with Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud or other similar constituent relationship management or donor databases

o   Superb attention to detail

o   Hard-working and willing to take on a broad range of tasks; accepts constructive feedback willingly

o   Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

o   Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and remain flexible

o   Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings, and overtime, as needed for development events and duties

o   Understanding of and passion for Sixth & I’s work
