New Visions’ goals is to support its network of approximately 80 schools to ensure that all students graduate ready for college and career with action plans that support their post secondary transitions. The Deputy Director of Career Readiness will be responsible for building the systems, structures and processes that will allow New Visions to support school principals to ensure that all students gain work based competencies and viable pathways that will lead to employment in growth sectors and fulfilling careers post high school graduation.


The Deputy Director of Career Readiness is a key member of the Community and Family Engagement Department and will collaborate closely with New Visions school support staff inclusive of partnership development, family engagement, college access and systems and data analytic team members to integrate the college and career readiness systems and develop a menu of support strategies used in the New Visions network. 


New Visions is a grantee of the JP Morgan Chase New Skills for Youth Initiative (NSFY) that will focus on the development of career pathways for high school students in employment growth sectors specifically in the technology, healthcare and transportation sectors.  New Visions is designing a data portal that will support the tracking of students milestones and outcomes along the workforce readiness continuum. This data will complement existing student performance and progress to high school graduation data and serve as the foundation for assessing student progress on the college and career readiness continuum and the refinement of program design. The Deputy Director of Career Readiness will serve as the primary liaison who will interface with NFSY grantees and partner staff, JPMC grant manager, school based staff participating in the pilot initiative and New Visions staff involved in the development of the data portal and management of the grant.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design and implement the career readiness systems and strategies to support school principals and their staff to ensure that all students gain work based competency and are prepared for fulfilling careers post high school graduation.
  • Research best practices, state/city policies, program models and systems in workforce readiness for high school students (including transfer schools) to inform the New Visions school support strategies for career preparation and the development of pathway options for students who graduate and transition from New Visions high schools and JPMC grant partner programs.
  • Assess school organization and partner organization needs and capacity in order to inform a directional strategy around workforce readiness and use data to monitor the implementation and efficacy of these strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Director of User Experience in the Systems and Data Analytics (Sysdaar) Team to implement a system for tracking and supporting work based learning competencies within the NV data portal available to all NV principals while managing various stakeholder interests and competing priorities.
  • Liaise with key players in the workforce readiness sectors including the NYC Department of Education, its Office of Career and Technical Education (CTE), higher ed institutions including CUNY and employment sector partners to inform the organization’s workforce readiness approach and data portal.
  • Provide technical assistance to the JPMorgan Chase New Skills for Youth grant partners to facilitate school level partnerships and to inform the design of the data portal to track student progress and milestones on the workforce readiness continuum.
  • Interface with JPMC grant manager and New Visions external affairs department in support of meeting grant deliverables and program outcomes.

Required Competencies and Skills:

  • Ability to engage in systems and design thinking and build programs at scale
  • Has proven experience navigating complex organizations and program design issues
  • Has worked in high schools or worked closely with high schools and has knowledge of the workforce/career readiness sector and the implications for developing high school post secondary pathways
  • Ability to assess changing conditions and the changing landscape of post secondary preparation and make recommendations and decisions that will inform the direction of the organization
  • Proven record of developing and managing a team and building/sustaining productive partnership relationships
  • Comfort and ease with the use of quantitative and qualitative data systems to guide system and process improvement
  • Demonstrated record of successful project management
  • Exceptional communications skills, with strong ability to collaborate across the education, community, funder and business sectors
  • Demonstrates political savvy, business acumen and comfort and ease working with senior level professionals​​


Level of Language Proficiency


  • Master's degree (MA, MBA, or MPA degree preferred) from an accredited college in business or public administration, human resources management, personnel administration, labor relations or a closely related field and five (5) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the workforce and career readiness sector (preferably at the high school level)
