The Program Associate is a full-time, 12 month position with a possibility of extension. Under the supervision of the Vice President for Programs and Policy, the Program Associate is responsible for supporting all aspects of the work of the RI Program Team.  The primary function of the Program Associate will be to help the Vice President for Programs and Policy to coordinate the work of the Program Team. The Program Associate will also assist with research and drafting and editing documents and providing administrative support.  Finally, the Program Associate will also provide support for mission planning and execution, as well as post-mission report writing activities.

The Program Associate will also assist with research and drafting and editing documents and providing administrative support.  Finally, the Program Associate will also provide support for mission planning and execution, as well as post-mission report writing activities.

   

Principal Duties and Responsibilities    

 

Support of Program Team 55%

  • Assist in editing draft written products - including reports, issue briefs and blogs - and tracking these products through the publication process with the Communications team.
  • Help coordinate mission schedules and report timelines for the Program Team and in conjunction with the Communications team. 
  • Work with the Admin and Finance teams to track monthly program team expenditures.
  • Assist in tracking the program team’s advocacy successes.
  • Attend and provide notes for program and external meetings at the request of the Vice President for Programs and Policy and the Advocates.
  • Monitor news about situations that RI might want to focus on in the future.
  • Analyze critical information, provide background research on emergencies or policy issues, and provide any needed advocacy and planning support.
  • Write issue briefs and blog pieces.
  • Supervise program team intern.
  • Provide administrative support to the Vice President for Programs and Policy and coordinate closely with Executive Assistant of the President

 

Support for Mission Planning and Execution. 35%

  • Support completion of administrative tasks for missions, including processing visa applications, issuing necessary travel letters and other documentation.
  • Assist with hotel arrangements, tickets/travel itinerary, or other logistics, such as securing fixers, translators and drivers.
  • Monitor travel, security, and medical news/alerts related to current missions and RI focus countries and notify staff and travelers as needed.
  • Provide backup to Operations Manager in dissemination of security updates when necessary.


Participation in Missions and Advocacy 10%

  • Serve as a second on missions responsible for, among other things, pre-mission planning, arranging logistics and meetings, taking notes of interviews, participating in meetings with policy-makers and briefings of findings.



Special Education/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree is required, graduate degree is desired.

Experience overseas, especially in developing and conflict-ridden is highly desired.


Special Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • Strong writing and editing skills 
  • Previous administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with refugees and humanitarian affairs is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of a second language (particularly French, Spanish, and/or Arabic) is desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience related to gender and/or climate change-related issues is a plus.
