Position Overview: The Communications Specialist, in coordination with the VP of Marketing & Communications and the Director of Marketing, generates and develops mission-related content in a multiple-source storytelling environment by creating dynamic and engaging copy for both print and digital platforms. This person possesses a creative mindset for storytelling, strong writing skills and the ability to work with a wide range of internal teams and external partners.

 

Essential Job Functions:

·        Establish and maintain a clear voice across all brand channels and touchpoints

·        Identify compelling stories and envision new ways to communicate them through the Symphony’s various channels. Ensure consistency in all editorial activity.

·        Serve as copywriter across platforms - print, online, multimedia, data and visualizations for monthly emails, feature articles, scripts and other writing projects as assigned

·        Maintain & enhance the Seattle Symphony’s monthly digital publication, “The Score,” by developing content, graphics and design elements for the publication that engages and informs audiences

·        Work closely with the Digital Content Producer and Digital Marketing Manager to support video and audio projects by helping to create scripts, research projects and manage shoots

·        Contribute to the draft and edit process of Symphony and Benaroya Hall-wide announcements related to emergency communications, status updates and other internal and external communication needs

·        Demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills

·        Perform concert duty and other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

·        Experience in marketing and/or communications

·        Proven track record of success creating memorable and effective written campaigns

·        Excellent project management skills and the ability to take initiative and be highly creative while balancing competing deadlines

·        Ability to collaborate with all areas of the organization

·        Detailed knowledge of – and passion for – classical music is essential. Additional knowledge of contemporary symphonic music is helpful.
