The Congressional Progressive Caucus Center is seeking an experienced, strategic, and motivated candidate to fill the position, with a title of Policy Associate or Senior Policy Associate, commensurate with the successful candidate’s level of experience.

Position Description

The Congressional Progressive Caucus Center seeks a Policy Associate/Senior Policy Associate with strong policy analysis and writing skills to contribute to the work of the Policy team and the Center.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and draft fact sheets, explainers, reports and other written content on CPC Center policy priorities
  • Track policy and legislative developments related to CPC Center policy priorities
  • Collaborate with the Center’s Directors to identify policy priorities and develop strategic plans for conducting public education and outreach on those priorities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with organizational partners
  • Organize and participate in coalition meetings related to CPC Center policy priorities
  • Assist Policy Director with coordinating Policy and Research Council meetings and related activities, including helping initiate and project manage key collaborations on publications with partners
  • Assist with conceptualization, project management, turnout, logistics, and written materials for briefings, the Annual Summit, and other events
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan on core health care policy priorities, including Medicare for All, Medicare and Medicaid expansion, and prescription drug pricing
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan on other core policy priorities, as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Relationships

This position will report to the Policy Director and work closely with other members of the program team, including the Legislative Affairs Director, Communications Director, Organizing Director, and other Associates.

Qualifications

  • Two to seven years of relevant experience working in a policy or government affairs capacity for nonprofits, government, issue campaigns, and/or political campaigns
  • Prior nonprofit and/or advocacy experience preferred
  • A Bachelor's degree
  • The ability to digest and communicate policy content in a wide range of policy areas to the public and work effectively with policy, legislative affairs, organizing and communications staff
  • Clearly established areas of policy expertise, knowledge and interest, as well as a proven ability to learn new policy areas
  • Strong writing skills with excellent grammar
  • Demonstrated capacity in writing and editing influential pieces (op-eds, memos) to frame and advance key policy priorities
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills; attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines with a commitment to quality
  • A demonstrated commitment to and experience working in the areas of racial justice, social justice, and people-centered policies
  • Commitment to centering anti-racism and equity in work, to fostering a culturally competent workplace and to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage a variety of projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining focus on high-level organizational goals
  • Track record of delivering superior results while maintaining a positive attitude working with colleagues in a collaborative, team-based environment, and with external partners

Salary Range

$60,000 - $72,000, depending on experience

This position is within a union-represented bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment may be subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

FLSA Classification: Exempt.

Location

This position is remote until the CPC Center’s office is able to reopen. At that time, this position will be based in our Washington, DC office.
