Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust (HART) is seeking an ACA/CIMA/ACCA qualified Finance Manager with a sound track record in financial management, strategy and planning who is ready to grow into financial leadership with this well-known and respected international humanitarian aid and advocacy charity. Reporting to our CEO, this is very much a hands-on role. You will liaise with the Board of Trustees and external auditors on a regular basis.

       JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

With an annual income of £700k, HART is still a relatively small charity. However, although small, the same demands pertain as for larger organisations to ensure the financial function is effectively controlled, is efficient and ensures that the best use is made of the organisation’s financial resources. This role includes:

 

·        Prime-entry bookkeeping to the production of monthly management accounts and year-end management and statutory financial accounts

·        Ultimate responsibility for financial control and reporting across the business

·        Prepare accounts for any subsidiary companies

·        Taking the lead on implementing and maintaining finance policies and procedures

·        Working with the CEO on financial strategy, budgets and income generation plans

·        Providing support for the HART management in the development of project proposals, funding applications and financial monitoring of programmes in the field

·        Managing the audit process and liaising with the auditors on matters of compliance and accountability

·        Maintaining key banking and supplier relationships

·        Preparing reports to the Board and senior management, acting as the leading interface between management and Trustees on financial matters

·        Producing the Annual Report & Accounts

·        Managing restricted funds for the organisation

·        Financial liaison with international partner organisations


·        Financial management of grants from trusts, foundations and cooperate sponsors

·        Managing donor database, including compiling reports

·        Database integration with Quickbooks

·        Managing international money transfers to HART’s partners

·        Managing HART’s payroll and HMRC returns through its external payroll bureau

·        Completing gift aid returns to HMRC

·        Ensuring the Charity files all necessary statutory returns

·        Supporting the Chief Executive with HR management, such as managing annual leave, sickness and other absences

·        Managing HART’s IT infrastructure with support of its external IT consultant

·        Keeping up to date with developments in the charities sector to enable HART to follow best practice

·        Promoting HART in ways that build awareness and confidence in the integrity of the organisation and its programme

·        The job is multi-faceted in its need to encompass every aspect of the financial management of the Trust and very much hands-on due to the limited resources of the organisation



PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

 

·          Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CIPFA) with strong financial management experience

·          Strong knowledge of SORP, Charity and Company Law

·          Experience of producing monthly/annual accounts/reports, commentaries, analyses and reconciliations

·          Good all-round technical accounting knowledge, awareness and skills, with a willingness to keep technically up-to-date and to acquire new technical skills relevant to the post and sector (e.g. charity matters)

·          Knowledge of the responsibilities and duties of the Company Secretary role

·          Experience of working with financial software packages, ideally Quickbooks

·          Experience of working with CRM systems or fundraising databases, ideally Salesforce

·          Comfortable and confident working closely with internal staff and stakeholders at all levels from trustees, directors and managers to non-finance advocacy, communications, admin and support staff, as well as with external advisers, regulators, customers and suppliers

·          Confident and experienced in effectively managing and developing people (will need to line manage at least 1 intern)

·          Proactive and willing make suggestions and show initiative where action required.

·          Excellent analytical skills; willingness to take responsibility for spotting and resolving problems in own work area and for suggesting and implementing improvements to working practices

·          Good planning and organisational abilities to ensure work is completed to timetable/deadlines

·          Good team working skills, including flexibility, adaptability and willingness to help and inspire others

·          Have the right to live and work in the UK.

DESIREABLE CRITERIA

 

·          Experience of working in a similar type and size organisation

·          Experience of running a business a plus

 

 

Benefits

1. SALARY

 £30,000 per annum, + End of year performance bonus

 

2. PENSION Scheme

 HART offers a participatory pension scheme with the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST), subject to eligibility and successful completion of your probationary period.

 

3. ANNUAL HOLIDAY 

You will be eligible to 25 days’ paid holiday in each calendar year (1st January – 31st December) together with the usual public holidays in England and Wales.

 

4. PROBABTIONARY PERIOD

 Your appointment will be reviewed towards the end of three (3) months to ensure your suitability for the role.

 

6. NOTICE

 During the probationary period, the notice period is one (1) week either side and after the probationary period, the notice period will be three (3) months on either side.
