Diversity and Inclusion Leader, Agency Wide – Bilingual (Master’s req’d)

Salary: $90k to $100k

Join a non-profit organization that has the warmth and strong purpose to make you feel good about where you work, along with an impressive size that is a perfect place to grow your career and make a difference. We provide support to over 2,200 people throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties  AHRC Nassau partners with a family of organizations including Brookville Center for Children’s Services, Citizens Options Unlimited and Advantage Care Health CentersWe currently have an opportunity for a compassionate DEI Leader to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate diversity, equity and inclusion policies, procedures and programs for the AHRC Nassau family of organizations. You will serve as an inspirational leader who can engage, build strong relationships, and provide leadership and direction to Board Members, executive and senior management. Specifically, you will:

  •       Develop/Implement DEI initiatives and collaborate with programs to create, implement and monitor programs to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all staff, volunteers and people supported.
  •       Establish a strategic plan for DEI at AHRC Nassau’s organizations to ensure employees have an inclusive place to work and learn, regardless of their race, gender, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, or disability.
  •       Chair the DEI portion of the strategic plan reporting process and work with goal chairs and committees to ensure the full implementation of strategic plan objectives.
  •       Review existing DEI data implementing new objectives, goals, and strategies; work with AHRC communications department to create a strategy and campaign around DEI.
  •       Develop/implement DEI initiatives and policies that support the DEI strategic plans and encourage equality and diversity; Assess/monitor program effectiveness through monthly and periodic reports. 
  •       Address issues faced by minority employees; Oversee EEO and Title IX investigations as a result of claims of discrimination, racism, harassment, assault, and other complaints. 
  •       Host DEI events and network with candidates from underrepresented communities.
  •       Serve as chair of our Joint DEI Committee and provide strategic direction and ongoing support; partner with executive and senior leadership in monitoring progress and assessing DEI related feedback.
  •       Work with the Joint DEI Committee team to develop infinity groups and track the outcomes of our DEI initiatives, including: Lunch and Learns, DEI Conversation Hour, Diversity Newsletter, Friendsgiving, and social activities.  
  •       Establish/maintain partnerships with key external DEI focused organizations (i.e., Equity Lab, NADSP, educational institutions, trade associations and industry leaders).
  •       In conjunction with team, plan and implement national, international, regional and local seminars, webinars and conferences aimed at educating the field of I/DD and our workforce on D&I best practices.
  •       Ensure investigatory process, notification, reporting, and documentation complies with Federal regulations and statutes.
  •       Develop a robust DEI training curriculum: unconscious bias, anti-racism, supporting different identities, creating opportunities for growth, staff appreciation and ensure increased inclusivity through focus groups and surveys (measure by pre and post indicators).

We require:

  •        Juris Doctorate or Master’s degree in a field related to social justice, public administration, human resources, sociology, social anthropology, management
  •        Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing/advancing diversity, equality and inclusion best practices in an organization.
  •        Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)® credential strongly preferred; or the ability to obtain certification within one year.
  •       Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and develop policies related to DEI program initiatives with metrics-based success stories.
  •       Experience working closely with C-Suite and all levels of an organization.
  •       Strong familiarity with, and understanding of the law in relation to discrimination, harassment and exclusion in matters related to DEI at the Federal and State level; and applicable local, state and federal laws, codes, rules, and regulations.
  •       Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of inclusion initiatives, such as organization-wide diversity training and multicultural events. 
  •       Extensive knowledge of, and experience with, allegations of discrimination investigations, conflict resolution and mediation methods.

We prefer:

  •       Experience working with individuals with I/DD or at a non-profit sector
  •       Curiosity about learning/exploring new thoughts, ideas and trends in the DEI field 
  •     5-7 years of Human Resources compliance experience and guidelines helpful
  •       Bilingual English/Spanish
