Senior Grants Accountant

The Sr. Accountant role has functional oversight over grants accounting, post-award administration, financial accounting and audit preparedness. Additionally, this role is instrumental in tracking grant oversight key performance metrics and associated reporting to senior leadership. This position is responsible for assisting in the preparation of monthly grant/contract billings to federal, non-federal and private grantors and ensuring proper compliance with all GAAP, grant/contract standards and guidelines. This role assists with payroll allocations, vendor disbursements and account analysis. This position exercises independent judgment and discretion and is responsible for making recommendations to improve grant reporting procedures and compliance and other accounting procedures. This position also supports the organization and Controller in all audit processes, while ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting processes and procedures.

Qualifications

·      Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration; or a combination of education and experience

·      4 to 5 years’ experience in nonprofit grant accounting

·      Excellent working knowledge of nonprofit accounting including revenue recognition and donor restrictions

Our Ideal Candidate will have:

·      Recent experience with modern accounting systems, preferably cloud based

·      Knowledge and experience with accounting for grants, contracts, budgeting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

·      Proven analytical skills with direct experience regarding Financial statements is highly desirable

·      Knowledge of the Payroll cycle – highly desirable

·      Knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable cycles

·      Excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills conducive to the supporting of multiple programs with various needs

·      Experience working in diverse cultural settings, pro-active and ability to relate and identify with the specific needs of the department as well as other staff

·      Intermediate knowledge, or greater, of Microsoft Office

AAAJ offers a generous benefit package to its employees. 

Group Health: Employees who work 20 hours or more per week on a regular basis are eligible to enroll in group health plans – medical, dental, vision, life and accidental death and dismemberment, and long-term disability – on the first of the month following a full month of employment. 

Retirement: Employees are eligible to participate in the 403(b) Retirement Plan upon hire with employer percentage matching after 1 year of service.

Vacation: One week accrued vacation in first year (accrual begins after introductory period), two weeks thereafter. After 4 years of employment vacation time-off increases to four weeks.

Holidays: There are 14 paid holidays

Sick Leave: As a new employee, you will be provided a pro rata amount of 80 hours sick leave based on your hire date. Each January, thereafter, employees are provided 80 hours of paid sick leave. Unused sick time is rolled over from year-to-year to a max of 120 hours.
