LOCATION: Chicago

Grade/Class: Grade G, Exempt, PSA-Eligible

ADL’s CEO and National Director, Jonathan Greenblatt—an accomplished leader and entrepreneur in the corporate, public, and nonprofit sectors—was recruited to the organization in July 2015. Under Jonathan’s leadership, ADL is transforming itself, upgrading its capabilities, leveraging innovation, building partnerships, and pioneering new horizons. 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Oversee Regional Operations team responsible for the region’s work related to advocacy, coalition building and community outreach, communications, incident response, Jewish community engagement, law enforcement engagement, public-facing programming, and young leadership development. Serve as a member of the region’s senior leadership team and collaborate with all team members to support the execution of regional programming. Assist the Regional Director in relevant budget preparation, staff development and supervision.

Responsibilities

Primary

  • Guide and mentor Assistant and Associate Regional Directors and other program staff by sharing experience of effective strategies and problem-solving approaches.
  • Support staff and the programs for which they are responsible. Hire, train and manage Regional Operations team members. Assist in relevant budget preparations and
  • Support team in implementing ADL programs and projects, identifying opportunities to respond to the environment or proactively drive mission-based conversations.
  • Work with programmatic staff to achieve the goals outlined in the region’s three to five year vision and tailor programs to meet local community needs and
  • Respond to and resolve the most complex or sensitive complaints of discrimination, antisemitic incidents and other civil rights issues.
  • Work with Assistant Regional Director to develop and implement community outreach including initiatives and joint ventures with elected leaders and diverse interfaith and cross-cultural organizations active within the region, such as leaders in the African American, Hispanic and Latino, Muslim, LGBTQ+, Asian American and other community and faith groups.
  • Represent ADL and present in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of ADL’s mission.
  • Organize Regional Board meetings and engagement programs
  • Serve as the region’s staff lead on Board Engagement, including the planning and execution of Regional Board meetings, engagement programs, and working with the Regional Director and Development Team to develop strategies to manage relationships with volunteer leaders (possible role depending on the candidate)
  • Undertake special projects and cross-regional assignments as needed.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • High degree of tact and descretion.
  • Proven diplomatic and conflict resolution skills are required.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Proven ability to work with and influence a wide variety of people.
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills are required.
  • Ability to multi-task is essential. Basic computer skills are needed.

Work Experience:

  • Between five and six years of progressively responsible human relations or community service experience including program and operational management
  • Preferred experience managing relationships and engagement opportunities for volunteer leadership of not-for-profit organizations, campaigns or other relevant groups.
  • Preferred experience within ADL or peer organization

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience plus additional related college courses or professional experience

Work Environment:

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to represent ADL and to attend community events.
  • Some travel within the region is required. Occasional overnight travel is required.
