Scenic Hudson seeks a Director of Park and Facilities Management for the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail. Working with the Executive Director, this important role will lead the maintenance and management of the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail park with immediate priority to: reviewing draft designs with an eye to maintenance and management efficiency, managing the Dutchess Manor facility as it heads into a reuse study and construction, advancing implementation of a comprehensive parking and trolley system, coordinating with construction managers on park construction, leading the staffing and equipment decisions as phases of the park shift from construction to operations, and developing and implementing an operations and maintenance plan for the park. The Director will work closely with agency partners in the planning, including Operations and Maintenance (O&M) schedule development as we formalize responsibilities into an agreement. Establishing close working relationships with relevant personnel at state Parks, Beacon, Philipstown, Cold Spring, and Fishkill, including emergency responders and traffic enforcement will be vital.


As the organization grows, this position will be responsible for managing three staff: two field staff working on landscape and building maintenance and management of the park and its facilities and a steward, volunteer and events coordinator, as well as some seasonal staff and volunteers.


Applicants should have a minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the area of park management that includes responsibility for facilities, equipment, and staff management, an undergraduate degree preferred. Experience in construction and contract management, cost estimating, data analysis, proficient in a wide variety of construction systems and techniques, field surveying, trail building, erosion control devices; comfortable with safe operations of stationary power equipment and hand tools; knowledge of green and sustainable construction and maintenance practices mandatory. Familiarity with a wide spectrum of material specifications and reactivity. Highly organized and able to respond quickly to unexpected work and emergencies. Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously. Self-directed, energetic team player who enjoys working collaboratively and with diverse groups of individuals with varying concerns. Experience in developing partnerships with stakeholders and building consensus. Ability to forge productive relationships with contractors, partners, and regulatory officials. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to engage in significant amount of strenuous outdoor activity during all weather conditions; ability to lift 50+ pounds; must have full range of motion for activities such as hiking, sawing, use of power and manual tools, hauling and towing. First aid and CPR certification preferred.

Knowledge of Hudson Valley flora and fauna and familiarity with government regulations and permitting helpful. Ability to read architectural and landscape plans. Experience in strategic planning and budgeting processes. Familiar with OSHA safety practices. Computer skills including Windows Office; project management software (i.e. Asana); Geographic Information Systems strongly preferred. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Willing to work occasional weekends and evenings.
