The Center at West Park seeks a part-time Facilities Manager to join our small, dedicated, and collaborative team. 

Job Title: Facilities Manager

Status: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt

Location: The Center at West Park, 165 W 86th Street, New York, NY 10024

Schedule: 20 hours per week during business hours (9am-5pm, Mon-Fri) plus occasional additional evening and weekend hours. Consistent weekly schedule to be set based on job requirements and applicant’s availability. 

Reports to: Managing Director

Supervises: Porter staff

Key relationships: Artistic Director, Technical Director, CWP resident artists, renters, and tenants

Compensation: $25 per hour ($26,000 per year)

WHO WE ARE:

The Center at West Park (CWP) is a non-profit community performing arts center based in the historic West Park Presbyterian Church, a New York City landmark. We present engaging and boundary-pushing early-career and established artists through our artist residency programs, provide affordable rental space for artists to develop their work, and steward the restoration of our historic home’s landmark exterior. CWP is led by Artistic Director Zachary Tomlinson and Managing Director Natasha Katerinopoulos.

WHO YOU ARE:

We are looking for a reliable and experienced person inspired to provide excellent spaces and service to the artistic community of New York City to join our team as our Facilities Manager. This person will be responsible for maintaining continuous building-wide safety, cleanliness, organization, and compliance standards. Reporting to the Managing Director, this person will work with the administrative staff and provide support for artists, renters and tenants of CWP.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Facilities Manager will be the onsite monitor for building, equipment and IT issues, troubleshooting issues and coordinating repairs as needed. This person will supervise porters and maintenance staff, coordinate with vendors and contractors, manage building access, order maintenance and cleaning materials and supplies, manage technical and maintenance equipment inventory, manage building signage, and ensure compliance with all building- and safety-related regulations, requirements, and policies. In collaboration with the Managing Director, this person will help ensure Covid-19 health protocols are followed. 

Duties include:

  • Open the building on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, at 9:00 AM
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Manage keycard access
  • Supervise daily cleaning of interior and exterior spaces
  • Order cleaning and maintenance supplies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ensure hand sanitizing and disinfecting stations are maintained
  • Supervise porter staff and tracking their weekly hours
  • Coordinate with staff, artists, renters, and tenants for load-ins, load-out, and other facilities and production projects as needed
  • Coordinate with facilities vendors and contractors, including phone and internet, plumbing, electrical, elevator, fire safety, and pest control
  • Provide access and up-to-date logs for city inspectors, including FDNY and DOB
  • Weekly building-wide survey to catalogue any maintenance issues, schedule repairs, and update maintenance log. Assign janitorial tasks including but not limited to the following: trash and recycling removal, mopping and vacuuming, bathroom cleaning, window cleaning, and restocking of cleaning supplies
  • Coordinate and perform building cleaning and maintenance projects when needed such as trash and recycling removal, sweeping and mopping, painting & minor repairs, lightbulb replacing & ordering, maintain inventory of paint & repair supplies
  • Provide departmental assistance with deliveries of packages, sets, props, and other production-related needs as directed by the Managing Director
  • Adjust boiler control for temperature in building during heat season as needed
  • Schedule piano tuning every 3-6 months
  • Organize and maintain stock of folding chairs and tables and other equipment in designated spaces

Requirements:

  • Experience managing or maintaining the facilities of a performing arts venue, church, community center, or similar building
  • Reliable, honest, and respectful
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Committed to safety and cleanliness
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer and information technology (IT) skills
  • Ability to work individually and collaboratively with staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about the institution, its donors, and its staff
  • Available at least 4 hours per day between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday
  • Available to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Frequently ascends stairs and ladders
  • Occasionally moves equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Experience managing or supervising a team a plus
  • Carpentry and painting skills a plus
  • Interest in theater, dance, music, and other performing arts a plus
  • Experience managing or maintaining the facilities of a landmark or historic building a plus
  • Familiarity with stage lighting, sound, and other technical equipment a plus
