The Norwalk Mentor Program (NMP) is looking for a Full-Time Program Director who is motivated, has good interpersonal skills and is looking for a professional growth opportunity. The NMP is a partnership between the Human Services Council and the Norwalk Public Schools. It serves more than 315 students throughout the 18 Norwalk Public Schools, and is planning to expand. It is a ‘school based model’ whereby mentors and mentees meet on school grounds during school hours.

Responsibilities include: recruitment of adult mentors from area companies, businesses, fraternal/civic organizations, houses of worship and private individuals, via site visits, presentations, local event participation, speaking engagements and networking; secure pre-requisite criminal background and reference checks on potential mentors; train mentors according to developed curriculum; work closely with ‘school liaisons’ at each school to assist with matches and resolve issues; gather, collate and maintain applicable statistics for the Program; assist with grant writing; file periodic reports to funders of the status and progress of the Program; plan special events throughout the school year; work with all partners in the community to promote mentoring on all levels.

Qualifications for the position include being a self-motivated individual and team player with excellent organizational skills. Bachelor’s Degree req’d. with experience in a social or human services setting, Master Degree preferred.

Skills needed: public speaking, excellent written and verbal communication, grant writing, fluency with Microsoft Office, including basic Excel. Social media proficiency a plus.
