API Developer

The Center for Responsive Politics (CRP), which runs the website OpenSecrets.org and is the nation's premier research group tracking money in U.S. politics and its effect on elections and public policy seeks a talented full-stack developer with proven experience designing and developing large scale applications. This person will take the lead in writing software that helps process and present data across a multitude of data sources and projects.

Primary Responsibility

  • Building APIs in Ruby on Rails and Python
  • Other responsibilities
  • Working on our Ruby on Rails website
  • Writing ETL and automation scripts

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of software engineering experience.
  • Experience building and testing APIs, both REST and GraphQL, in Ruby on Rails and/or other frameworks
  • Knowledge of REST and GraphQL standards, including best practices
  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Design principles and best practices
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services
  • Experience with Jenkins or other CICD solutions
  • Experience with Docker
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, agile work environment with frequent changes
  • Enthusiasm about big data and the political process
