Youth & Opportunity United provides free after school programming in the Evanston, Skokie and Morton Grove community. We understand that while all youth have the potential to succeed, not all youth have access to resources and opportunities to do so. At Y.O.U. it is our mission to “close the opportunity gap by preparing youth for post-secondary and life success”!
Project Goal: The Headquarters Operation Assistant will establish sustainable facilities practices for our new youth center and building in the 5th Ward of Evanston. This VISTA service opportunity will help facilitate Y.O.U.’s long term organizational priorities: our high-quality Out-of School Time programs, an excellent workplace, and a supportive infrastructure to better serve youth.
Y.O.U. Headquarters serves two main purposes: 1) To directly support youth through Y.O.U. programming, hosting other non-profit partners, and conducting family events in the community and 2) supporting the 100+ Y.O.U. staff who provide critical services to the youth populations of Evanston/Skokie.
VISTA Member Duties:
-Improve upon existing space management methods and community relationships
-Strengthen facilities practices and procedures for community interactions with the building
-Develop and foster partnerships with community organizations using our youth center spaces
-Implement a sustainable building maintenance plan including enhanced building communications
-Develop a Standard Operating Procedure for facilities equipment and systems that will aid in ensuring the facilities longevity in order to serve more youth and families
-Asses administrative purchasing methods to create a cost-effective analysis
-Create accessible policies and sustainable procedures in Y.O.U.’s new headquarters
- Hours Requirement- VISTA Members serve 365 days a year with flexible schedules
- Non-Competitive Eligibility for Federal Positions
- $300 Professional Development Fund and ongoing PD
- Choice of Education Award ($6,095) or end of service year cash stipend (approx $1,800)
- Living allowance given in bi-weekly installments (approx $13,000 for service year)
- Health and child care coverage
- Relocation assistance if relocating more than 50 miles (approx $500)
- $40/month for travel to service site
