Center for Safety & Change is currently seeking a full-time, 35-hours per week, Bilingual Special Victims Therapist to work with victims/survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking, and domestic violence. This is a direct service position that requires at least three evenings a week and the ability to work flexible hours when needed, in addition to being on-call. This position also requires an understanding and training in trauma-informed and/or creative arts modalities for providing therapeutic counseling to victims/survivors. The position reports to the Manager of Special Victims Counseling.

Some responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide assessment and short term therapeutic trauma-informed counseling to adult and child victims of sexual abuse, child abuse, rape, stalking, human trafficking, and domestic violence, their family and friends.
  • Provide crisis intervention, individual counseling, assessment of client needs and information and referrals.
  • Assist victims in creating and implementing safety plans.
  • Facilitation of groups for victims/survivors of abuse and their families.
  • Respond to hotline calls.
  • Provide advocacy and accompaniment to hospital, D.A.’s office and courts.
  • Assist victims/survivors in accessing and completing Office of Victims of Services (OVS) applications.
  • Administer Danger Assessment tool to victims.
  • Provide transportation.
  • Collect and maintain case outcomes, record keeping and provide grant related reports.
  • Provide timely responses to correspondence.
  • Attend trainings on sexual assault, human trafficking, domestic violence and other crimes.

Position Requirements:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology with 2+ years of clinical experience and valid NYS licensure. 
  • Must be trained and have experience in trauma-specific clinical approaches with adults and children.
  • Must speak, read and write Spanish fluently.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Possess strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, crisis oriented environment: assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system and courts.
  • Requires flexible hours including some early mornings, a minimum of three evenings per week, and being on-call during off hours.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee must possess the ability to communicate with staff and clients. Some occasional lifting may be required (please speak with Human Resources to request accommodations).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation a must.
