Los Angeles Education Partnership (LAEP) is a non-profit organization that advances educational equity. Founded in 1984, LAEP was the first educational-transformation organization in Los Angeles and among those at the forefront of the movement nationwide.

LAEP is currently searching for a dynamic and skilled Director of Marketing and Communications. As a key management position, this role will work to promote LAEP’s mission and vision for a more just and equitable education system. The Director of Marketing and Communications will do this by leveraging communications strategies, building and maintaining media relations and curating mission and campaign aligned communications. Scope: What is the nature of the role? The Director of Marketing and Communications will function as the organizations leader specializing in advancing communications campaigns through both traditional media and digital communications.

Key responsibilities for the Director of Marketing and Communications will include:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic marketing & communications plan to:
  • Strengthen and advance the organization’s brand
  • Broaden awareness of our programs and priorities
  • Increase the visibility of programs across key stakeholder audiences
  • Successfully communicate our story and impact to enhance development
  • Broaden programmatic reach and deepen impact
  • Lead strategy, create/design content, interpret analytics, and distribute:
  • E-communications (newsletters, marketing campaigns)
  • Website & blog
  • Social media (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Publications and marketing collateral (annual report, board report, promotional materials)
  • Advertising campaigns (digital and print)
  • Analyze and lead branding efforts of the organization by building the capacity of and working with program and leadership teams to establish, communicate, and enforce branding guidelines. Duties include but are not limited to ensuring all partner organizations are adhering to brand standards and providing necessary collateral to successfully share the organization’s story and impact.
  • Spearhead all re-branding opportunities to maximize brand awareness and increase brand equity. Keep all collateral and branding standards and guidelines current and fresh, and solicit and monitor all feedback periodically. Recommend and lead any required brand changes.
  • Lead all media, advertising and public relations efforts such as press releases and event promotion—this includes writing, distribution, and relationship management.
  • Manage and lead any marketing, design, or branding projects with agencies or consultants, as needed.
  • Author scripts/speeches, presentations, and other executive communication, providing strategic counseling to executive leadership team to ensure adequate and appropriate messaging—including crisis communication management.
  • Serve as the lead writer and copy-editor for organization-wide materials and communications
  • As needed, build and manage a marketing committee or other ancillary groups with partner organizations to increase engagement, ensure equity, and achieve measurable goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, in Marketing or PR preferred
  • 5+ years progressive non-profit marketing experience required
  • Strong organization, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong computer aptitude
  • Analytical skills with particular attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success in working with students and families of diverse backgrounds
  • Cultural awareness and ability to navigate and promote sensitivity with issues of race and equity and knowledge of racial equity and racial justice and educational equity

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Licensing and Certification Requirements

· Daily driving could be required, must provide own vehicle, valid Driver's License and proof of full vehicle insurance coverage

· Negative tuberculosis screen (required)

· Must pass criminal background check

FLSA & Employment Status

Exempt/Full-Time, 40 hours/week
