POSITION SUMMARY

Are you an experienced youth development or education professional with a passion for racial equity and increasing economic opportunity for all? Urban Alliance, a national youth workforce development nonprofit, is currently seeking a Program Coordinator for the Baltimore, MD region to support our students’ professional development, post high school planning, and support the job mentors who work daily with our students. You’ll have the opportunity to join a fun, committed, and hard-working team that always puts our students first. This position reports the Baltimore Program Director. We seek a candidate who can dedicate a minimum of two years to the role.

Urban Alliance is a national nonprofit that connects high school students to equitable, inclusive careers through paid work experiences, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to help them achieve their full potential. We are nationally recognized for having 25 years of unique and valuable experience creating successful and supportive internship experiences for young adults with large and small employers across several industries in our regions--the Greater Washington, DC area, Baltimore, Chicago, and Detroit. Our programs are bridging the gap between education and the workforce by opening the doors for high school students to receive essential skills training, access career-readiness opportunities, digital literacy training, individualized mentoring, and ongoing post-high school planning support.


Job Responsibilities

  • Support and monitor the professional, academic and personal performance of high school students (11th and 12th grade)
  • Build and maintain relationships with students, mentors, parents, and school staff
  • Actively recruit program participants, including visits and presentations to target schools
  • Manage relationships with corporate leaders by regularly communicating with and supporting mentors to help them structure workplans, supervise interns and assist in their personal and professional growth
  • Collaborate with mentors to conduct formal evaluations of intern job performance and skill development
  • Troubleshoot and mediate jobsite conflicts
  • Facilitate professional development workshops for high school interns
  • Counsel interns on post-high school options, college application process, and develop individual plans for each intern
  • Demonstrate flexibility with the understanding that working with youth requires going above and beyond
  • Represent the organization at events, as needed 


Qualifications

  • At minimum a Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least two years of experience working in youth development/with youth
  • Teaching and group facilitation experience required
  • Passionate about our mission and the possibilities of what youth can accomplish
  • Experience working with community organizations and schools in under-resourced areas
  • Excellent oral and written communication, including mediation skills and the ability to have direct and open conversations
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with youth as well as corporate mentors/executives
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint

VACCINATION

As established by the Urban Alliance Board of Directors, all employees are required to receive a vaccination against COVID-19, unless a medical or religious reasonable accommodation is approved. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

At Urban Alliance one of our core values is taking care of each other, and this includes offering competitive benefits, paid time off, and options for remote work. The salary for this position is between $51,000 - $58,000 depending on experience.  In addition to having paid time off between December 25th and January 1st, we provide 18 days of paid time off (PTO) plus 10 paid federal holidays, 5 sick days, as well as birthday and diversity paid holidays. After 3 years of employment, additional PTO days are provided.  Depending on the calendar, additional paid closure days and early closure days are established each year.  Our benefits include a comprehensive health plan with 90% individual healthcare coverage for employees; 403(B) retirement plans with a 3% match; pre-tax commuter, health, and childcare benefits; and whole life insurance.
