Purpose Statement:

Responsible for overseeing the delivery of Dallas City of Learning (DCOL) efforts directly related to DCOL community neighborhood programming. Leadership areas include building partner relationships, staffing, managing data collection, reporting, training and engaging our citywide partner network. Ensure successful delivery of enrichment programming at DCOL community sites.

About Big Thought:

For 30 years, Big Thought has worked with local and national partners to bring tailored creative learning opportunities to kids in Dallas neighborhoods with the greatest need. Big Thought focuses on programs that work with elementary, middle, and high school students to unlock their full potential and set them on a path to success.

Essential Job Duties:

·      Serve as a liaison between Big Thought and community organizations, students and parents of participant

·      Provide formal and informal feedback to DCOL staff, community members, and partners regarding individual and program effectiveness

·      Serve as resource for engaging families and communities

·      Provides training to volunteers, staff, parents and community partners on listing programs on the DCOL Platform

·      Build community and parent capacity to increase overall success of programming at campus and community locations

·      Develops strong formal community relationships to build capacity for families  

·      Support the DCOL coordinated, citywide, and strategic plans

·      Facilitate the implementation of best practices for family engagement

·      Oversee staff who directly provide a safe, caring, and enriching environment for groups of children participating in the summer program

·      Attend staff, team meeting, and professional development as assigned

General Job Duties and Expectations:

·      Represent Big Thought to families, partners, community, students and staff

·      Adhere to all rules, regulations, and policies of Big Thought

·      Comply with Big Thought dress code

·      Attend team meetings as required

·      Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Senior Program Manager

·      Demonstrate commitment to implementing Big Thought instructional strategies


Required Skills:

Education: College degree or some college with at least two years’ experience in non-profit sector preferred

Experience: Demonstrated work with parent and community groups

Special Knowledge/Skills:

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking

·      Strong interpersonal and public relations (customer service) skills and the capacity to engage and interact with a wide range of people

·      Ability to plan and organize, multi-task, and manage varied administrative functions

  • Ability to set goals, establish weekly and monthly schedules and complete goals on time

·      Ability to supervise and guide a diverse staff in daily programming activities

·      Capacity to engage and motivate others and build a team; strong leadership skills

·      Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data

·      Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and other forms of technology

·      Bilingual (English and Spanish) considered a plus
