REPORTS TO:                         Accounting Manager - Early LIFE Services

 CLASSIFICATION:                Full Time

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Staff Accountant - Early LIFE assists the Accounting Manager - Early LIFE Services in managing day-to-day financial operations of Early LIFE Services. S/he prepares financial reports, analyzes accounts and other financial data, makes monthly journal entries for payroll allocations, provides monthly reports to the Accounting Manager – Early LIFE Services, assists with year-end and other audits, and performs other duties to help manage financial operations.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Assists the Accounting Manager – Early LIFE Services in:

1.   Preparing financial reports

2.   Analyzing accounts and other financial data

3.   Preparing ACS & DOE expense reports

4.   Preparing cost allocations

·        Makes monthly journal entries for payroll allocations as needed

·        Performs data entry

·        Prepares and monitors monthly program administration expenses

·        Monitors and tracks revenue and cash receipts

·        Reviews expenses to budget monthly with the Accounting Manager – Early LIFE Services; identifies, trouble-shoots and resolves potential budget issues

·        Reviews child care Parent Fees

·        Prepares monthly credit card reports

·        Reviews and tracks Early LIFE invoices

·        Provides monthly reports to the Accounting Manager - Early LIFE Services

·        Monitors and maintains budget in NYC HHS Accelerator System

·        Ensures compliance with contractual obligations

·        Ensures accuracy of data for each funding source as appropriate

·        Assists in tracking weekly volunteer hours and monthly “In-Kind” reporting

·        Assists in annual independent and ongoing grantor audits by preparing audit schedules and account analyses and retrieving documents

·        Ensures a high level of confidentiality with all Information

·        Reviews transactions for fraud and reports any suspected fraudulent activities to the Compliance Officer as well as the CFO and/or any other member of the LSSNY cabinet (CEO, COO, General Counsel or VP for Agency Advancement) immediately.

·        Performs special projects & other duties as necessary and assigned


SUPERVISES:

·       None

 

EDUCATION:

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting


EXPERIENCE:

·        Preference for candidates with 5 years of experience in accounting for UPK, Childcare, Head Start, CACFP or other similar programs.


SKILLS & ABILITIES:

·        Solid understanding of non-profit and fund accounting

·        Understanding of government grant requirements

·        Extremely well-organized

·        Able to manage time and prioritize tasks to meet stringent deadlines

·        Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality

·        Able to exercise discretion, initiative, and good and independent judgment

·        Meticulous proofing and follow-up skills

·        Interpersonal skills appropriate to a diverse workplace

·        Highly motivated

·        Proficient with MS Office, especially Excel
