Description

Steps to Success (STS), a comprehensive school success and college readiness program, is hiring a floating substitute for its after-school Extended Learning Programs, After Hours University (AHU) and Teen Advantage (TA), which take place at three schools in Brookline.


We seek a strong, positive, energetic, and well-organized leader who will make an excellent role model for young people and support in the cultivation of a program that works to expose our students to a variety of high quality enrichment experiences.


Programs serve 10-20 students in grades 4-6 (AHU) or 7-8 (TA). Programs run 1.5 hours 3 days per week, from 3:40-5:10pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.  Floating Subs are also paid for 1 additional hour of planning/administrative time per week.  *There is an option to expand and add an additional, paid,  hour each day (2:40-3:40pm) with the same group of students, by working as part of the Public School of Brookline Homework Center as well.  


The Floating Substitute is a part time position (5.5 hours/week, including planning time). Prospective candidates will ideally be available for employment starting November 13, 2018 through June 14, 2019.


Program Objectives

As a result of having a wider breadth of experience in regards to enrichment activities…

  • Students will develop improved engagement in learning
  • Students will develop skill sets beyond those learned during the school day.
  • Students will develop better communication skills and relations with their peers

Duties

  1. Assist in whatever program may need coverage due to Director or Assistant Director absence.
  2. When not covering, assist in one program (TBD) as a home-base, helping with routines and administrative duties as directed by Program Director, and/or Steps to Success Director of Programs.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years experience working with young people in a school, camp, after school, or residential setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to youth development. Ability to work with a diverse population and with students of varying levels of academic skill and engagement
  • Flexibility and creativity in relating to students in an after-school setting is essential.
  • Experience with students in middle grade and above age range is important.


Additional Information


  • 5.5 hrs/week during the academic school year (which includes 1 hour of planning time). Option to work additional hours on the same days as part of PSB HW center.
  • $20/hr
  • Additional paid hours for STS events, meetings, and professional development trainings.
  • Supervised by STS Director of Programs
