The Development Director (DD) is a key person that provides growth to the organization through fundraising, outreach, and public relations/communications. The DD oversees all outreach and fundraising activities. 


An important objective of the Development Director is to raise additional funds to help support a team of professional and volunteer educators to sustain and, if feasible, increase participation in its formal environmental education programming with area schools and institutions.


The Development Director will also be responsible for the overall administration and support for the Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system. This responsibility involves knowing how a CRM should and can be utilized across the organization, skills using online technology, assistance for users, and leadership to expand its use and effectiveness for the organization.


Key Duties/Responsibilities:

 

Fundraising, Outreach & Communications:


·      Implement revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations, Board-approved fiscal year budget and programmatic expansion.


·      Identify new sources of funds, cultivate existing donor relationships, and research and prepare grant applications to achieve fiscal year and strategic goals. 


·      Ensure all donations are acknowledged in a timely manner.


·      Oversee all aspects of external communications - including web presence, newsletters and mailings, membership communications, and social media - with the goal of creating greater awareness about the Five River’s Environmental Education Center, the mission and goals of the Friends’ program and increasing enthusiasm and participation of volunteers in the organization.


·      Actively engage in community activities and events throughout the Greater Capital Region to identify and develop new partnerships and relationships that could support the organization’s mission and programs.


·      Develop and oversee annual fundraising campaigns, including direct mail, annual report, social media, special events, email campaigns, and grant applications.


·      Support the efforts of the Board’s outreach and development committees and seek and build Board involvement with fundraising.


·      Actively engage Friends staff, volunteers, Board Members, committees, DEC partners, members and donors in the Friends’ mission and activities.


Evaluation of Outreach and Fundraising Activities


·      Regularly evaluate outreach and fundraising activities to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and members.


Administration


·      Maintain an accurate CRM system for tracking all contributions, memberships, activities, notes along with the creation of financial reports and donor lists and data systems for program registrations.


§ Work with volunteers, interns, FFR staff and DEC staff to enhance the visitor experience to Five Rivers and support the mission of Friends; and provide yearly volunteer recognition event to honor Friends’ volunteers.


§ Purchase supplies and services for educational programs and assist with other accounting and fiduciary responsibilities as authorized by the Board.


·       Assist with various administrative and other duties, as assigned.


Professional Development


·       Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending relevant workshops, reviewing publications, and establishing networks with other similar organizations.
