 Job Summary

The Community Impact Strategies (CIS) Department at CPDC collaborates with residents of each community, private sector institutions, other non-profit organizations, and local and federal government agencies to create strategic alliances. These alliances result in programs that provide residents and those in the immediately surrounding communities with the resources and tools they need to bring about dynamic change at both the personal and community level.


The primary function of the Community Impact Strategies Manager (CIS) is to facilitate the development of a robust and engaged community “network” of residents, staff, partners, and community members to collectively create a strong, vibrant community. The Manager’s role is to build the community network and the capacity of community network members, increase resident-led activities, and coordinate collective problem solving. The CIS Manager provides residents with information about and supportive access to local services and resources that can assist residents in achieving their objectives. The CIS Manager is responsible for supervising program staff, contractors, volunteer members and interns, managing a budget, planning events, and performing a variety of other tasks. 


Unique to the position at Stony Brook (Alexandria, VA), the CIS Manager will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with a large grant award that provides funding of the After School Program. The individual in this role works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Community Impact Strategies. Job Responsibilities

  • Develop positive, professional, working relationships with the property’s residents, the property management staff, partner organizations and contractors
  • Select, develop, and maintain referral partnerships with local partner resources
  • Assist residents facilitating social activities and community organizing activities
  • Develop CIS work plan and budget with Senior CIS Manager
  • Manage enrollment and performance data and enter all documentation in CPDC’s Efforts to Outcome Database (ETO)
  • Review ETO reporting data to evaluate CIS efforts and decide whether to change programs and/or services periodically
  • Disseminate information to residents regarding CIS programs and partner services
  • Work with the Director of Development on grant proposal ideas and submissions
  • Coordinate with property management to ensure that families are successful tenants
  • Establish communication policies and procedures with asset and property management

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree, plus a minimum of two years of relevant work experience; or a minimum of three years of documented, successful experience in community development or community organizing activities
  • A working knowledge of the local human service system(s) or the ability to quickly develop such knowledge
  • Ability to identify, assess, select, develop and maintain community service referral partnerships that assist residents in achieving their goals
  • Ability to work in multiple office settings while remaining organized
  • Occasional travel to Silver Spring, MD office, as needed, for staff meetings and events
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Competent computer and technology skills.
  • Ability to occasionally work inconsistent hours, including weekends and evenings when necessary
