Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) seeks a full-time Pro Bono Coordinator to support and promote our dynamic and varied pro bono practice. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have excellent communications skills, and be passionate about access to justice for all New Yorkers.


Organization: Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS)

For over 35 years, Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) has provided free, civil legal services to low-income New Yorkers including seniors, veterans, unemployed workers, immigrant youth, children and their families, and small business owners. VOLS’ staff works with 1,000+ volunteer lawyers from over 70 law firms/ companies to multiply our impact, and we partner with over 200 community groups to ensure that our services are accessible and address local needs. 


Responsibilities:

The Pro Bono Coordinator will work closely with the Legal Director and Project Directors in the day-to-day operation of our pro bono practice. This will include the following responsibilities:

  • Support outreach to and the tracking of our network of pro bono partners.
  • Support organization wide pro bono communications, including newsletters and pro bono opportunities emails.
  • Organize trainings for pro bono attorneys and help to administer the VOLS continuing legal education program.  
  • Create and keep up-to-date volunteer profiles in our web-based case management system LegalServer.  
  • Assign and monitor matters assigned to volunteer attorneys.  
  • Maintain Pro Bono Library resources.  
  • Support the development of new pro bono projects.
  • Organize and support pro bono clinics.  
  • Support volunteer recognition and related fundraising.  
  • Collect and analyze volunteer data for reporting and fundraising.  
  • Assist with the drafting and design of promotional materials to recruit new volunteers, law firm and corporate partners.
  • Create and implement volunteer appreciation and recognition plan.
  • Assist with reporting, communications, and other organizational tasks as needed.   
  • Additional projects as assigned.


Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree and relevant professional experience. Experience working in a law office, or another legal setting preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Detailed oriented and highly organized. Public speaking experience. Demonstrated commitment to social justice.


Experienced with Outlook, Office 365, website maintenance, data management, spreadsheets, virtual communication tools, and database tracking systems.

The position will be temporarily remote but will transition to in person when our office reopens in the fall. Local travel to meetings, clinics and other events is required.

$40,000 - $40,000
