The Program Advisor is a key role for delivering on The Washington Center’s promise to students to provide them with a transformational experience – setting them on a course of achievement and leadership. He/she serves as the first line of support for TWC’s federal agency partners and interns. This person is responsible for managing and implementing numerous federal internship programs, while also executing a professional development curriculum targeted at enhancing the broader federal intern experience.
Essential Functions listed in order of importance:
- Develop and implement student experience and professional development curriculum in consultation with federal relations team for a caseload of 40-50 students. Manage syllabus for program.
- Mentor students while they are in the program, outlining and monitoring professional development goals, and overall progress throughout the term.
- Provide regular and consistent feedback on assignments throughout the term.
- Co-plan 4-8 professional development events and/or workshops for students.
- Assist with internship referral and placement process, as well as logistics
- Ensure all TWC constituents have a positive and beneficial experience.
- Conduct orientation
- Monitor student/supervisor relationship for professional development and enhancement of professional skill sets
- Serve as a liaison between students and internship sites, conduct site visits (locally and regionally) and perform mid-term and final evaluations.
- Develop relationship with internship supervisor and internship site that promotes TWC and provides an opportunity to guide the supervisor’s role in educating students in a professional setting.
- Fully utilize and adopt curriculum management systems and technological processes including timely communication with students.
- Ensure both federal agencies and students are aware of TWC policies including financial assistance and code of conduct.
- Provide all clients with excellent customer service by answering questions and providing information in a timely manner. Clients may include, but are not limited to: federal agencies points of contact, travel and housing companies, students, and university/college officials.
- Provide designated manager(s) with updates on interactions with current federal agency partners as well as potential new business development opportunities.
- Participate in limited recruitment trips at colleges and universities each semester to promote TWC and to share TWC’s message, introducing the programs TWC offers to faculty, staff, administrators, and prospective students.
- Contribute to the planning of a strategic marketing and recruitment plan for all federal internship programs, mainly focused on the Naval Research Laboratory, but assisting with others as needed
Required Education and Experience an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field required
- 2-3 years’ related work experience
- Experience working with students required
Preferred Education/Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree a plus
- Experience working with the Federal government is a plus
- Experience working with college students highly preferred
