Description Manage daily operations of the medical unit; provide appropriate

primary care services to residential treatment and housing clients

Responsibilities:

1. Provide daily management of the medical unit operations to include supervision

of other nursing personnel, medical assistant(s) and phlebotomist(s)

2. Provide triage and physical exams and record health history

3. Maintain Medication Administration Record (MAR)

4. Dispense medication, as needed

5. Refer patients, as appropriate, to the Nurse Practitioner/Medical Doctor and/or

Psychiatrist

6. Ensure required reporting is in compliance with contract, grant and funding

requirements

7. Provide counseling on health issues, medication therapy, harm reduction and

reinforce adherence counseling for complex HIV/AIDS treatments and the

importance of ongoing Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) compliance

8. Provide crisis intervention, as necessary

9. Contribute to individualized patient service plans and provide periodic reviews for

patient level of care, participate in CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement)

Committee and multi-disciplinary/treatment team

10. Adhere to US Public Health Service guidelines, regulations and primary care

standards

11. Adherence to confidentiality rules under 42(c)(f), Health Insurance Portability &

Accountability Act (HIPPA) and RAP’s Policies and Procedures

Qualifications:

1. Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner, licensed to practice in the District of

Columbia

2. Ability to meet deadlines and work with a minimum of supervision2

3. Demonstrated ability to supervise and train staff

4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an environment where priorities may

change daily

6. Sensitivity to the specific needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS who may be

substance users, homeless, mentally ill, and/or ex-offenders
